Fantastic Weekend!

5 of 5
We had an awesome time at Cynthia's lake house. Our family had a great time, and it was perfect for everyone, including our sweet pup. There was enough space for everyone to comfortably sit, work, play, cook, etc. or easily find a quiet space to nap or read a book. The backyard was the perfect size-enough space for us to play wiffle ball and bocce and a good proximity to the lake. The grounds are really really well maintained by Joe, the caretaker, and the housekeeping also did a great job prior to arrival. The kitchen was a dream to cook in; there was ample counter space to prep & the indoor grill was easy to operate. Cynthia also provides a lot of the necessary items in the kitchen (e.g., trash bags, paper towels, salt, pepper, etc.) & the same All-Clad pots I use at home! The bedrooms were all great in size, master bedroom was super pretty & the bed & pillows were so comfortable too. Linens were also obviously high end. Although we didn't need it, I couldn't tell / didn't notice, besides the master bedroom, if there was air conditioning in the other bedrooms. There are so many neat little treasures and finds all around the house. Our family had a great time, and my dog had the time of his life running around the yard (we're from NYC, so not much green space for him). The lake was gorgeous as well. Even though it was too cold for us to swim in, we could tell it's clear and nice and we'd definitely have no qualms swimming in it. We also loved that the house was close to NYC. While on the property, you felt like you were pretty isolated, but the house is actually located close to the highway and only a 5 minute drive to the nearest Stop n Shop or Shop Rite. Only a few very MINOR things came up. The indoor griddle. It looked like it had not been scrubbed for months so there was a lot of caked on gunk and wasn't usable until we took it upon ourselves to scrub it. It wasn't a small task, but so worth it to clean it to cook breakfast for big groups. We also didn't use the outdoor grill because it wasn't like a standard Weber; if I remember correctly, I think it was built with bricks and some grates...something I'm not accustomed to cooking on. Not a big deal because the indoor grill was a fine alternative. The firepit area is on the other side of the property, and sitting around a fire presented difficulties as there were no chairs easily movable to this part of the property. Again, all MINOR points to an OUTSTANDING stay! Thanks Cynthia!

Refreshing Beach Escape; Simply Elegant

5 of 5
My husband surprised me with a well needed vacation at the Connecticut Shore. Coming from Manhattan it was an easy drive. Upon arrival we were swepted away by the charming neighborhoods to surrounding water views. The owner had a chilled bottle of champagne waiting for us in this absolutely gorgeous dream home. The owner was very coregill and accessible during our stay as she checked in with us and offered some great suggestions of places to dine and visit. A brisk walk daily had become our morning ritual finishing off with the soothing hot tub and sun glistening on the open bay. As I sit in my office I remember these moments and can’t wait to get back there. A Big Thank You!, for sharing your home with us. Before we left we booked two weeks this summer, we will be looking forward to escaping the city and spending more time at the shore; this has become our new found love.

Perfect family

5 of 5
I was looking for my review and it seems to have disappeared, here it is again, sorry for the delay! My husband and I celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary here last summer. We rented the place for 10 days, and had various friends come up for a few days at a time. Our friends (mostly 30's, some little kids, from NYC and Boston) unanimously loved this location. You really feel like you have been welcomed into an extended New England family's warm, lived in, summer cottage. The history just oozes from this place, and the decor, books, games and tchotchkes really make this unique and special (especially the kids room, we though the single beds would be a deal breaker, but people were fighting to stay in there!). We spent the week hiking on easy NE rainforest trails, swimming in the pond, canoeing at sunset, cooking big family meals, playing manhunt on the grounds and charades by the fire. It was perfectly idyllic. We really look forward to coming again. Thank you!
