Modern Seclusion Away From The Modern Life

5 of 5
As you enter the driveway, you will see it descend into the thick woods, already giving you a sense of seclusion. About a quarter mile down, the scenery opens up to a cozy wood house with a backdrop of a very wide Connecticut River along with an expansive view of thousands of trees nestled on a large hill, not a neighbor in site. At this point, everyone is "in-ah" of the view while at the same time questioning the accuracy of the car's GPS. The entrance of the house is bright and open, a dining room to your left and a living room to your right with three different entries to the kitchen in the back, an open concept floor plan. Although you'll find that the kitchen is beautiful, you'll find yourself standing in front of the sliding glass doors (leading out onto a massive deck), again, taking in the spectacular view. There are 4 cozy bedrooms, each lending a view of a wide backyard including some views of the river. Both bathrooms are spacious with good water pressure. Every room in the house is clean and nothing feels damp and dreary. In addition to the bedrooms downstairs, there is a quiet room to watch TV, read, or play games. There is plenty of storage for your bikes and hiking hear. There are about a hundred steps leading down to the shore of the river where you will find chairs, a fire pit, some small rafts and boats to take out, which we were brave enough to take out on a rainy day. Not being experienced in rowing a boat, we were thankful that the river current pushes into shore. We had a party of six friends, there was more than enough room in the entire house for everyone to stretch out and relax. Our goal was to get away from the hustle and bustle of NYC and this delightful stay at the house had offered more than what we expected or asked for in a peaceful, comforting setting. During our first day, after getting settled in, Dean met up with us down by the river to see if there was anything we needed. He showed us how to use the amenities, .i.e., the entertainment system (indoors and out), fire pit on the deck, washer & dryer. The owner is very pleasant and hospitable and it's evident that he has put in a lot of thought and hard work into creating a perfect secluded getaway. Within the first two hours my friends and I had already decided to make this house an annual fall retreat.

Great, Charming waterfront getaway !

5 of 5
Our stay in this lake front home was awesome . We had a few adults and kids, all of us were real comfortable with our stay , I loved the back deck very spacious, the kayaks were so much fun, very peaceful and a quick drive to local stores, waking up to the incredible sunrise and sunsets was great. Overall would love to go back and re-live it all over again .

Don't Miss this Unique Experience!

5 of 5
My husband and I are from East Windsor, CT. Last November we retired to Florida, knowing our daughter was to be married in South Windsor on September 6, 2014. With various friends and relatives coming for the wedding, we looked for a vacation rental that could accommodate not just us, but our other children, cousins and various friends on various nights. This property could not been more perfect. It is huge, with plenty of room to sleep a crowd! More than that though, it is a charming example of tasteful, high-end mid-century construction and decor which includes family photos that bring you back to to this family's life when the owners lived here years ago with their Mom and Dad. Little seems to have changed since the house was built in 1958, but that makes it all the more fantastic. I was immediately transported back to my childhood during the fifties and sixties. The kitchen is well equipped with retro yet fully functioning appliances including garbage disposal, double oven and dishwasher. There are four separate living spaces, some of which can double as sleeping quarters. Our family and our guests were enchanted by the beauty of this home, including the outdoor terrace, covered porch, stunning front entry, pastoral views and family treasures throughout. The dining room is nothing short of magnificent. The day after the wedding there were nine of us around the antique table having a family breakfast; and that beautiful table could have easily accommodated more. There are bikes and table games and a wonderful yard, all in a quiet country setting that also appears to be unchanged from years ago. I can't comment on the tv as we were all having too much fun to turn it on, but the wifi worked perfectly. My out-of-state company remarked repeatedly how awesome the house would be for a family reunion. We may follow up on that! As a last remark, the owner is pleasant and easy to work with. The day after we left she sent me an email stating she had already mailed us our security deposit. If you like humdrum hotel rooms that all look the same and provide the identical experience time after time, you probably should stick with that when visiting the Hartford area. However, if you want a truly memorable experience for you and your family, pass on hotel and go instead to Eve's Retreat! It is part comfy accommodation, part museum, and part nostalgic trip into the life of a family in an earlier time.
