The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

4 of 5
This is a mixed review since there were several good things, and several not-so-good. First, the good: Beautiful setting, secluded and quiet (for the most part except for the loud jerks on four-wheelers in the middle of the night racing and revving up and down the road). There is not actually a view of Pike's Peak as advertised, but the scenery is beautiful nonetheless. The inside of the large yurt is well laid out and we especially enjoyed the spacious shower and the desk area and living space. The kitchen is well stocked as is the bathroom. The bad: windows are small and do not open. They are unfinished and you can see the insulation. The deck doesn't go all the way around and there is only a small porch in back to enjoy the view. The wi-fi is extremely slow and most of the time we couldn't get on because it took forever for anything to load. It is even slower than dialup. The bed was lumpy and not very comfortable. The ugly: this was advertised as having a washer and we planned accordingly when packing....but there is no washer. There was supposed to be cell phone reception, but there was no signal at all either inside or outside in any spot. The bed was advertised as a sleep number, but it is not. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and were happy with the accommodations, but we were disappointed with the misrepresentation of several key amenities. It may not have made a difference as to whether or not we rented, but it isn't fair to not be able to make an informed decision as to whether or not it is worth the cost.

Wonderful and relaxing stay

5 of 5
This property was fantastic! My dad and I stayed for three nights at the Mountain Fortress while on a father-son fishing trip, and both agreed that three days was not nearly long enough! The views were breathtaking, the solitude and beautiful surroundings were incredibly peaceful, and the amenities of the Mountain Fortress made our stay extremely comfortable. After each day of fishing, we took full advantage of the hot tub and enjoyed a drink on the deck. Mike was an incredibly gracious and attentive host. We have already begun to discuss a return trip to Cripple Creek and the Mountain Fortress.
