My family, including two dogs and a cat, booked this house for four nights over Mother's Day weekend. It is an easy 15-20 minute drive from Glenwood Springs. It's on 500 acres and is very secluded, which appealed greatly to us. It sits on top of a hill with an absolutely stunning view of Mt. Sopris. There were deer on the lawn every morning. The setting is absolutely spectacular.
The house is huge and easily accommodated our group of 8 people. There are three living areas so we were able to be together or separate when we wanted personal time. The kitchen is huge with two eating areas. There is also a long dining table. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you might need. The fridge is a side by side and a bit small if you plan on bringing meals, which we did. We had two coolers for beverages so that helped. There are two master suites. The one on the upper level is not pictured but it has a king sized bed, along with a window seat which is a twin bed. The master bathroom is well appointed and has a steam shower. There is a wonderful and huge deck for gathering along with a fire pit and tables, chairs, etc. There are also small decks off three areas of the home where you could get away from the larger group to just enjoy the scenery and have personal space.
The only thing lacking for this property is a hot tub. Even though the Glenwood Springs hot springs pool is 15-20 minutes away, it's 15-20 minutes away...with lots of people. The beauty of this home is the seclusion and we really just didn't want to leave. My mom, who is 80 years young, would have loved to sit in a hot tub looking out over the beautiful Mt. Sopris and acreage but the trip into town would have sapped her energy. The addition of a hot tub would have greatly enhanced our stay.
There are so many things to do in the Glenwood area from hiking to swimming to skiing to biking to exploring the caves.
Another plus was working with Kathy, the on-site manager. She was very responsive and caring from our initial communication to having to impose upon her to mail items that we had forgotten. She's very personable and knowledgeable about the Glenwood area. Kathy lives in a basement apartment, which we were, quite frankly, a bit worried about. However, it was as if we were there alone except for when we had to call upon her to help with the satellite tv and the wifi. Don't let this put you off from renting this wonderful property. She was awesome.
