In selecting a rental unit for our annual Christmas trip, previous reviews are crucial. High Country Lodge reviews were excellent and went way back. I will try not duplicate previous comments as they seem to accurately describe the lodge. Breckenridge had a huge snowfall prior to our arrival and continued to snow throughout our stay. The owners Patrick and Petra plowed the driveway early each morning and cleared the walkways. The road to the lodge was plowed and sanded and our 2 wheel drive mini van and Suburban never got stuck. Our 4 wheel drive did get stuck and needed to be pulled out on the mountain. I believe it was a driver issue more than vehicle issue as two cars were negotiating a steep mountain turn. Patrick created a snow sled course and provided sleds for the kids. They loved it. We had 12 adults 8 children and one infant in our group and never felt crowded anywhere in the lodge. With 14,000 sq. ft. on 10 acres this place is very unique in the ski country. It appears that previously the lodge was operated as a B&B with each bedroom furnished with great beds and nicely decorated. Each floor had a quiet lounge area where you can read or relax. With 15 bathrooms I expected to run out of hot water or low water pressure, it never happened. They have 3 central boilers that take care of that. The main floor is at ground level so unloading groceries and luggage is easy. The rec room in the ultimate "man cave". Patrick came by daily to check on things, hot tub, trash, etc.. I have never experienced this kind of support at a rental unit before. We will return!
