Picturesque cabin and location, ideal for a winder get-away

5 of 5
Originally from Europe I spent a lot of time hiking in the Alps the the Pyrenees, I was excited to spend some time in the Rockies this winter and go for some good walks with family. The cabin was a dream location, felt quite isolated in the Rockies but really only a few minutes off a main road for easy finding and access. Several fantastic hikes, with a range of capability right on the doorstep, literally! The location could not have been better. With a quick teaser at the back of the cabin, there is a nice little view point to see some breathtaking views, day and night time. The cabin itself was phenomenal - it has a homely touch, you can tell people own and use the cabin when not rented. But this is exactly what I like about it. There was enough personal touch to make it cosy and welcoming, but not so much that it felt like we were invading somebody elses home - this cabin is set up perfectly for people to come and use it. Ample firewood was ready to go, inside the fires were stocked and ready to light as soon as we walked in. The kitchen has a great feel to it, people leaving behind non-perishables and spices for communal use, some excellent quality kitchenware for cooking up some comfort foods, and a great open-plan and central location, so when you are cooking you can still be involved with people elsewhere in the cabin. The living room was beautifully laid out, plenty of seating around the fire, a TV with every channel you could want, many games available to entertain without the TV, and books-galore, several local hiking guides that came in very useful. I can't speak highly enough of this cabin, I have stayed in some middle-of-the-row places, and given the price and the size of the cabin I was fully expecting this to be average. I can't praise this place enough, the interaction with the owner, the place, the location, it was all just perfect. If you are after a romantic getaway, or after a large group getaway, or anything in between, then this cabin is perfect. I know when I return to the Rockies I will be after booking this exact place again! Thank you :)

Five years and counting

5 of 5
Fourth of July just wouldn't be the same if we didn't spend it at this perfect spot in Black Hawk. We've been there for the past five years during the first week of July and already have it booked for next year. When we walk in the door we smile at each other and say, We're home! We both enjoyed the new hammock this year and the patio by the creek is our favorite spot for drinking coffee in the morning and a cocktail in the evening. We love the privacy of the cabin and the fact that it's so close to Black Hawk and the fun of the casino. If you're lucky enough to visit this little bit of heaven, you'll understand why we can't wait to return!
