Easily accessible and very attentive staff. Highly recommend this unit. I will make it a point to stay there again on my next visit. Chris the owner was very professional and helpful. Thanks again.

By Far, the best penthouse in Cali!

          5 of 5
As a public school teacher, I have the luxury of having summers off. Each summer I try to take a month long summer vacation outside the country. After traveling to the beautiful city of Cali and staying in a place like this, I am not sure if I am ever going to travel anywhere else. The apartment is perfect for those who appreciate their privacy, but also value the sense of security that is often not available in many places in South America. This apartment is on the top floor of a 14 story apartment, walking distance to everything that you need in the city (Food, atm, supermarket, stadiums, main streets, Salsa dancing, Salsa lessons, etc). I would not consider the apartment luxurious, but it is definitely levels above any hostel that you could find in a similar price range. The building is locked 24 hrs and only allows access to those living in the building (approved guests too of course). The security guards are very friendly and helpful. The view from the patio is amazing! Fernando, the owner, is very helpful too. Upon arrival, he arranged for his Cousin, Rodrigo, to pick us up in his taxi. Rodrigo basically became our on-call taxi driver after that. He was one of the nicest taxi drivers we met during our month there in Cali. The two things I must mention are about the wind and the "spa". At times the wind picks up and can howl rather noisily in the apartment. Thankfully, the wind usually started around 2pm and stopped around 9pm, so we were usually out and about during that time. Also, the spa: There were some water drainage issues while we were there that we think were linked to the patio spa. The water would leak sometimes from the living room ceiling. It was not an issue for us, as we would just collect the water in buckets and empty them when the leaking would happen. If you dont mint the occasional roof leak, then this should not bother you at all. It only happened in the apartment 3 times in one month and lasted only for a few hours. Overall, I would recommend this stay to anyone wanting to experience City Penthouse living on a budget. I will definitely be heading back there, perhaps every summer. The apartment is awesome, and Cali is amazing! You are missing out if you go to Cali and stay somewhere else!

Incredible Location With Authentic Cartagena Charm

          5 of 5
We spent a week at this beautiful spot with our three children, ages 10, 9 and 7. The apartment is part of an old monastery that overlooks the old wall surrounding the historic part of Cartagena. Just one block away is the Santa Clara hotel, which was an old convent. The location is very safe and perfect for families. Shopping, restaurants and coffee shops are just a block away. When we were looking into places to stay in Cartagena, we looked at some high-rise condos in the Boca Grande area, which is a 10 minute taxi ride away. Thank HEAVENS we didn't stay there!!! The cement block buildings are dull and dingy. The beach is o.k., but the water isn't the clear water we are used to seeing in the Caribbean or most parts of Mexico. We walked along the beach one day and were immediately mobbed by vendors offering hats, watches, necklaces, massages, hair braiding, etc. It was fine for an hour, but it really started to wear as the entourage followed us down the beach. Needless to say, it wasn't the peaceful experience we had imagined. Taxis are very cheap - $5-$7 USD for pretty much anywhere you'd want to go. We were so happy to be able to visit the beach, but return to our little sanctuary in Casa de Bocatillo! We also looked at some apartments in other parts of the walled portion of the city. Again, we were relieved that fate directed us to our special location as other apartments, though charming, would have been noisy due to street and pedestrian traffic. Taxi drivers in Cartagena honk frequently! I truly can't image another spot that would yield a better combination of location and quietude! A description of this property would not be complete without mentioning Clari. She is the housekeeper and also prepares breakfast. Clari is a fabulous cook. We hired her to prepare three other meals. Her chicken dish is amazing! The kids adored her and consider her to be one of the best parts of our trip to Cartagena. To the best of our knowledge, she doesn't speak English, so brush up on your Spanish! The owners, Thomas and Jim, are accessible via a free Vonage phone line to the U.S. They are also a tremendous resource for restaurant recommendations. Thank you, gentlemen, for a wonderful stay!
