Our family just recently rented the Casona Doña Javiera Carrera the last week in November. The primary reason for our trip was my daughter's wedding to a local fellow from Santiago which was held at the villa on the next to last day of our stay. What a perfect setting for a peaceful family vacation as well as a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception. The rooms are exactly as described on the website. Very spacious. The daily laundry service by the housekeeper, Janette was an unexpected and welcomed treat. The kitchen has everything you need in terms of food prep although the knives could have been sharper. If you are coffee drinkers like we are, consider bringing your own coffee beans supply because believe it or not, it's hard to find a good cup of coffee in Chile! The TV in the living room had several English speaking stations and to our delight, we were able to watch our beloved Steelers play Thanksgiving night, something we thought we might have to drive to a Santiago sports bar to have any hopes of catching the game. The pool is stunning with its large clay pot fountain. Perfect for lap swimming and wading. The landscaping all around the 12 acre property is immaculate thanks to the daily meticulous care of Manuel. Julie, the manager of the villa, is an ex-pat American, who married into the family that owns the villa. What an incredible host. She worked tirelessly with us to plan the perfect week, from baking homemade pizzas (absolutely incredible) in their outdoor clay oven for our first dinner in Chile, to preparing a huge Thanksgiving feast for us and our new in-laws, to working with the local caterer in hosting the wedding and reception. I have just a few really minor suggestions for improvement...it would be great if they kept a stock of electrical adapters to use for cell phone charging, unfortunately we only had one adapter to share among the 8 of us. There were not any hair dryers in the bathrooms, so we had to ask borrow Julie's. Like I said, really minor. We have rented many villas on previous vacations, and this one ranks at the top. With our daughter living in Chile, we will be returning often and definitely plan on taking a more extended vacation at la Casona Doña Javiera Carrera. Well done Julie Dunphy and the Carrera family!
PS, be sure to visit Valparaiso, Pomaire, and take a horseback ride in the Andes!
