Perfect location in an amazing city

Staying here you are right in the center of activity, yet it feels like a private oasis--unless you have the window open to the neighbors hanging their laundry. But that is the charm of Guanajuato: You become part of the rhythm of daily life, and it can be very lively--for example, when the musicians come by about 9:30 each night! The house is right near 3 plazas, and an easy walk to the main plaza. The big food market is a block down Ave. Juarez, but if you go another block or two and turn right, you'll find several street vendors selling great tortillas, nopales, vegetables, etc. Two restaurants we liked were Los Campos and El Midi. Be sure and check out the roof at El Midi. If you are in town Friday night, go to the symphony (Theatre Principal) for 80 pesos, it's a steal. Back to the house--it's very comfortable and well appointed while maintaining Mexican authenticity and charm. View from the roof is grand. The dumb waiter didn't work while we were there, the washing machine is more trouble than it's worth (rinse your stuff out and rig a clothesline on the roof), and the hot water can be tricky (our only real negative) but we would stay again in a heartbeat. P.S. Fly in and out of Leon airport if you can and have Israel drive you. We wish we would have used him as a tour guide. But we also rode city buses all over and that was a great adventure.
