Best place in Colonial Mexico

5 of 5
Landing at Leon International airport, we were met by the Casa driver, ( and tour guide, if you wish) by Israel, who was right on time, and spoke perfect English, and drove us to Casa San Roque. There, we were met by Nancy, the Casa manager. Nancy opened the Casa for us and explained the functioning of the house. Nancy told us the Casa was a recently remodeled, 350 year old Historical home, built in the center of the city, and is within walking distance of everything, restaurants, drinking establishments, plazas and shops. As we opened the door into a secure entrance, we placed our luggage and food supplies into the dumb waiter. Our luggage went to the second floor bedroom, study area, and our food supplies went to the third floor kitchen, dining room, lounge area. The Casa is beautifully finished with International art work, wall hangings, and furniture. A "special surprise" was the terraza on the roof of the Casa, watching the sun set and the moon rise over the World UNESCO Heritage site city. Several evenings, the turbadoras played and sang to us in the streets bellow. Our first night was spent at the Teatro Principal, listening to a Strauss Concert by the Universidad de Guanajuato. The people of Guanajuato are friendly and the Casa is extremely safe. We had such a wonderful visit in a beautiful Casa, Casa San Roque is your home away from home. (5 stars from us.) Brilliant vacation for our group

5 of 5
My wife and I recently returned to Hacienda Las Trancas for the third time. Each visit, our groups have rented the entire hacienda for a week, so the experience has been somewhere between a resort and a rental property. I have tried to describe the place and experience to others, but there are no adequate words. For friends who have recently been there with us, there are also no adequate words, but now they understand. We go with people who are like minded – if you're looking for a glitzy 5-star resort with smooth, shiny surfaces, this is not your place. It's 450 years old and full of texture and character. If you prefer authenticity and soul mixed with creativity and care, then it can be as special as you want it to be. It's casual elegance is nice and comfortable – rooms, grounds, food, everything. The staff are real people who you want to take home with you. The somewhat remote location inspires relaxation, but there's also plenty to do – when you include day trips into the must-see cities of Dolores Hidalgo, San Miguel and Guanajuato, the days fly by. Our group of 20 arrived as friends and acquaintances. A week later, we left as family. The hacienda is the kind of place where that can happen. Since returning, we simply laugh and hug one another and try to tell others to trust us.

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!

Casa Magdalena has it all! Big and beautiful! Great girl's getaway! I stayed here with 8 girlfriends and we had a blast! We each had our own bedroom with private bathroom; perfect. The town of San Miguel is tons of fun.
