Best place in Colonial Mexico

5 of 5
Landing at Leon International airport, we were met by the Casa driver, ( and tour guide, if you wish) by Israel, who was right on time, and spoke perfect English, and drove us to Casa San Roque. There, we were met by Nancy, the Casa manager. Nancy opened the Casa for us and explained the functioning of the house. Nancy told us the Casa was a recently remodeled, 350 year old Historical home, built in the center of the city, and is within walking distance of everything, restaurants, drinking establishments, plazas and shops. As we opened the door into a secure entrance, we placed our luggage and food supplies into the dumb waiter. Our luggage went to the second floor bedroom, study area, and our food supplies went to the third floor kitchen, dining room, lounge area. The Casa is beautifully finished with International art work, wall hangings, and furniture. A "special surprise" was the terraza on the roof of the Casa, watching the sun set and the moon rise over the World UNESCO Heritage site city. Several evenings, the turbadoras played and sang to us in the streets bellow. Our first night was spent at the Teatro Principal, listening to a Strauss Concert by the Universidad de Guanajuato. The people of Guanajuato are friendly and the Casa is extremely safe. We had such a wonderful visit in a beautiful Casa, Casa San Roque is your home away from home. (5 stars from us.) Great vacation condo

5 of 5
This was my first time staying at a condo for vacation instead of a hotel. I enjoyed my stay in the condo and felt like I got a better Mexican experience by staying in this charming, homey condo. The neighborhood was pretty quiet and I felt very safe. No church bells. We did hear church fireworks one night and could see them from the rooftop. It was very easy to pick up a taxi at the end of the street for 30 pesos if you did not want to walk. There was a lovely, small neighborhood park down the street. The condo was clean and charmingly decorated. The central courtyard shared by the condos is beautiful and has a fountain, benches, and lots of plants. The pictures are fairly accurate, but the kitchen patio garden has grown and has more flowers. Each bedroom had its own bath and balcony with spacious tiled showers. I had the twin bedroom which had a ceiling fan and an extra column fan. Lots of natural light in the kitchen and living area. The kitchen had everything you needed. It even had a 20L bottled water dispenser which is important since the water in San Miguel is hard and most don't drink from the tap. We used the kitchen for breakfast and snacks and ate out the rest of the time. I loved drinking my coffee in the kitchen in the morning, turning on the water feature and watching the sparrow birds in the patio garden. Both a Vonage phone for calling USA and a Mexican phone were provided. Internet service was good. Having a washing machine and dryer was nice. I would recommend this property.
