Super house and staff

5 of 5
We used this as a family retreat for ages 3-91 and found it ideal as a place to relax, paint and enjoy SMA. Several blocks from the main square, it has bedrooms to accommodate almost any situation. Even with 10 of us in residence, it was spacious and comfortable. The mature trees and well tended gardens provide great beauty, dappled sunlight and fresh flowers. The house is very comfortable but not overwrought, and the staff are outstanding including the gardeners. Our special thanks to Oscar for your attentiveness and to Elvia for superb meals and chiles nogadas beyond great, and for their special attention to our children! We had a great retreat - thank you! We look forward to returning to SMA and Las Tortugas!

Visually stunning with relaxed seclusion!

This sophisticated home is the perfect setting for an "escape" vacation. This home is more gorgeous than the pictures and has a welcoming, peaceful and relaxing ambiance. The whole house is connected by its beauty and great design. The open architecture of the home integrates it and you with nature. The inside of the house blends into the outside...it is so aesthetically pleasing and relaxing. This house has every amenity that I would find in my own home....and then some. It was immaculate and very well maintained. Angelica, the main housekeeper of this house is an outstanding cook! The food was great tasting, very authentic, and so fresh. Eating a meal at Casa Arbol was equivalent to eating out at any fine dining restaurant! The house is conveniently located within walking distance of the main jardin or square of San Miguel De Allende. This charming historic city is like traveling to another world....the food, entertainment, shops, and culture were unforgettable. A nightly ritual that we established while in San Miguel was to watch/listen to the Mariachi bands at the main jardin, which was then followed by a refreshing margarita (or two), at the Ceilo restaurant (rooftop seating)....allowing us to take in the spectator view of the city.... before heading back to the relaxing Casa Arbol for the night.

Superb and Quiet Location in San Miguel de Allende

5 of 5
Rarely does a rental exceed the expectations of seeing the pictures and descriptions online. For this rental that was the case. Two couples rented this house from Dec 25, 2010 to Jan 1. It is well appointed and comfortable with lovely gardens on several levels, home to many species of birds. It is located northwest of the Jardin, a 10 minute walk from the centro. We thought the small street on which the house is located was one of the prettiest streets in San Miguel. The kitchen is below the main level of the house which is not unusual in colonial houses. It is well-stocked with dishes and platters and cooking accessories. The concierge had sent directions by email on how to use the oven. The kitchen leads out on the gardens. In the morning taking a cup of coffee outside was a wonderful way to start the day. There are both indoor and outdoor dining areas which added variety to our in-house meals. There is a garage for a car although we didn't have one. Frankly, a car isn't necessary in San Miguel. Walking is the best way to get around and taxis are plentiful and cheap for excursions just outside the town. The housekeeper who comes daily is also a terrific cook. She prepared a meal for us to warm up on Christmas Day when we arrived and we hired her to cook another meal later in the week. We gave her money and she bought the provisions and cooked the meal which was waiting for us when we returned from a day trip to Guanajuato. The next day she returned 60 pesos to us--her honesty and reliability were terrific. The concierge, Leonor, is English-speaking and was easily reachable by phone. The two bedrooms are not equal in size or amenities. The upstairs bedroom is much bigger and better appointed with a sitting room and large flat panel TV. The downstairs bedroom is quiet and comfortable but not comparable to the other room. The house may be best suited to one couple with children old enough to stay in the downstairs room. Or two couples who trade off during their stay. The U.S.-based owners were wonderful to deal with before and after the rental, providing us a set of keys in advance to use when we arrived on Christmas and promptly returning the security deposit. Overall it was a terrific experience to be in San Miguel during the holidays and this house definitely enhanced the experience!
