Beautiful Home

4 of 5
This home was a jewel to find. We had a fabulous time in the home with our family. The home is extremely clean and having air conditioning in all the rooms is a plus after a long hot day at the beach. The location is perfect with great access to the beach and the amenities the hotel next to the home offers. The pool provides a nice break from the beach and we pretty much had it to ourselves the whole time we were there. Jose the property manager is wonderful. He arranged for all of our transportation while we were in Costa Rica. He shared tips and insights of the country. Jose arranged for several tours for our family and took care of all the details, so we just had to show up. Our trip would not have been as enjoyable without Jose. The house with Jose's assistance and knowledge was the perfect combination. If we make it back to Costa Rica, this home will be our first choice.

Peace and Quiet in a Tropical Paradise

5 of 5
Hi Fred! It’s been three years since we wrote our first review of your home and thought it might be good to give our review an update. And having just arrived home from our sixth stay at Casa Roja, I wonder if we have earned some sort of honorary status, no? You already know what a treasure you have with Casa Roja and we feel so fortunate to be able to frequently borrow your piece of tropical paradise. When considering whether to stay in town or at Casa Roja, trial and error taught us that your place wins hands down. Don’t get me wrong, San Juan is great – we enjoy the quick drive into town to shop, visit the Farmers Market or grab a bite to eat but that we can quickly escape the heat and hustle bustle of town is what we treasure on vacation here. And with Playa Hermosa virtually down the road from Casa Roja, we just zip down there to swim, surf and search for shells on the beach. By comparison the beach in town isn't as swimmable, surf-able or quite as beautiful. Whether we’re returning from town or the beach, we appreciate being able to get back home quickly to unwind nestled in tranquil privacy. On our first visit, we had wondered about security but it has never been a concern. Whether it’s during our morning walks or peaceful evenings spent stargazing comfortably tucked away in what has truly become a home away from home, we never worry about or want for much. Your caretaker, Luis, is like family and it goes without saying that we love your adorable dogs so much that we are taking Luca back with us later this year. We are confident Casa Roja’s two remaining pups, Indie and Toby, will continue to keep people smiling with their loving laid back demeanors. (Do you put it in other guest's contracts to bring them treats or is it just us?!) Reflecting on all our time and experiences there, it’s almost like your place mellows and ages well with time. You’ve kept it in excellent condition. We noticed the new paint along with new outdoor furniture, gas grill and more. The plants have tripled in size and fruits are everywhere! Luis’s handiwork, no doubt. But why is it we can never find the free bottle of Flora de Cana Rum you always promise us!!! Keep up the good work and we will be back very soon!

Nice getaway

4 of 5
We stayed in this Villa the last week in February 2015. Our goal was to snorkel and we did but we just happened to be there when the 40-day Humboldt current arrived so the water was sometimes colder and cloudier than normal. However, most days we could swim and enjoy the beach. The Villa was just like the pictures and the caretaker arranged the turn-around on Saturday between the prior renters who couldn't get the ferry until 3:30, and us arriving in the morning by plane. It worked out fine. We walked to the beaches each day and only rented a cart from the caretaker for one day to see the entire island and to go to dinner at Tortuga one evening. Driving home in the dark with the little headlamp on the golf cart was quite the adventure. The Villa is exactly 100 steps from the beach but there are landings and walkways in between so it's not difficult. We are 68 and 70 years old and we did fine. The plus side is the breeze from the ocean swoops up to the deck of this villa creating the most wonderful cooling affect on warm afternoons. We thoroughly enjoyed the deck in the mornings and afternoons but got chased inside by mosquitos about 5:30 each night. Tip: If anyone in your group is sensitive to bites, bring along mosquito repellent which you'll only need when you go out to dinner or you want to stand on the deck at night and stare at the stars. The wi-fi worked fine once we figured it out. The water on the island is not drinkable including in the villa. We made the mistake of buying a large flat of bottles - very expensive. We should have bought water in gallon jugs and bought just four bottles to refill. Both the information center and the dive shop (right next door to each other) will explain the best snorkeling spots. The folks at the dive shop were very helpful and we took one snorkel trip with them to the outer islands. The island went through a crazy building phase and now has some abandoned hotels and resorts. It's kind of sad walking past them to get to the good snorkeling spots. While we were there the filter and pump in the pool was broken. We never went in. We saw people go in the murky pool but it looked too icky for us. We did, however, really appreciate the outdoor shower next to the pool to clean off all the beach sand. Favorite Restaurant = Rincon but Gerald's was good and very handy. We advise you bring your own bar soap or body wash, and a small container of laundry soap. Dish soap is provided.
