Beautiful beach, Rustic seclusion

5 of 5
Three friends, myself and my husband (we're all 28-33yo) spent 7 amazing days at this rustic little beach house. There is no A/C, but we really didn't mind at all; The beach directly in front is Majagual beach--literally a 10 second walk down a little paved path, through a wood gate that opens to the most beautiful, seculed beach i've ever seen, For the entire trip we had the beach to ourselves day and night. The only time we saw anyone else on the beach was when the fish were jumping early morning and the locals would run up and down the beach chasing the schools and realing in the fish. It's about a 15 min walk down the beach to Maderas--the main surf beach which also has a couple fun little bars for cervesas and food. The people watching and surf on Maderas is awesome. Getting to this house is not easy--get a 4X4 for sure. it's about 30 to 45 min drive to San Juan Del Sur from the house. Pick up some food at the Pali store before you leave town for the house. Also a couple other notes: the house has no hot water--but when it's 90F outside, who cares? A cold shower feels good at that temp. Also. The power went out in the middle of the night a couple times--not for long--maybe 4 or so hours; but I would caution you to keep a head lamp or flashlight within reach at night. We luckily brought headlamps with us and kept them with us at all times at night. Also, we ran out of running water on the 5th day we were there. the water comes from the big blue barrel outside the house that needs to be refilled. It was enough water for 7 people/5 days who never showered--only a quick rinse after the beach--and dishes. We are all very good about conserving water and still needed a refill. However, the local family--Gerardo and Lupe heard we were out of water and we magically had a refill in the middle of the night because we woke to running water the next morning. I would cosider this house luxery camping. The howler monkeys were extreamly entertaining :) All-in all, one of the best vacation trips of my life. I will be back here for sure same time next year. Thank you Dan and family for the use of your house. Make sure you make friends with the local family Gerardo and Lupe and there babies Andres and Milelito--They are so sweet--we had dinner with them almost every night. I wish I was there right now.

Nature Life

5 of 5
We really enjoy staying in such place inside the rainforest. It is a really new experience to replace the sounds of our big town with animals sounds like howler monkeys in particular. Don't hesitate. And if you need help and advices, Guillermo is there to give you all you need and organize a discovery day in corcovado or island...

Good times in the mountains of Costa Rica

4 of 5
I spent Labor Day weekend here last year with a group of friends and it was great. The driver picked us up at the airport in a Toyota 4x4, we stoped by the market to stock up on provisions, and the party never ended. The driver took us to the bars and casino in San Jose every night, and drove us home (with our "dates") lit the fireplace and DJ'd salsa til sunrise. Slept and ate all day and then did it again!
