Beautiful house and gardens in the mountains

5 of 5
We spent 2 wonderful months (Jan. & Feb. 2015) at Los Suenos Dorados. This is an ideal place for longer term stays by seniors like us who prefer quiet and privacy (no neighbours!) We felt absolutely safe the entire time. Judith was more than helpful with the arrangements and friendly Ticos (Carlos & wife, Lila as handyman & maid, another Carlos as gardener and 2 pool guys) took great care of us. Lots of fruit stands and mini supers nearby – Parada Turiste has a wood-fired chicken roast on weekends - best BBQ chicken we've ever had. The house and garden are lovely - lots of hummingbirds, butterflies, toucans, parakeets, ibises, hawks, swallow-tailed kites, etc. to look at and photograph. A private waterfall is 5 min away, great for cooling off. The spectacular Nauyaca falls are a short drive and an hour hike away - get there early and you will have this one to yourself also. We much prefer this house in the mountains and the mountain view to the usual beach scene, however, if you prefer beaching it's only a 15 min drive to Dominical, and a little further for many other great beaches along this coast. If you want to get away from the busy Dominical Beach scene, you may want to go down the road towards Uvita where you will find Roca Verde Restaurant (cash only) which serves great thin crust pizza and ceviche. We went to the beach in front of the restaurant as there were very few people there and parking was easier. There are many good restaurants in the area, including several with spectacular mountain views between Platanillo and San Isidro (Restaurante Valle Encantado, La Chorras, and several small Sodas) or towards Uvita with spectacular views of sunsets overlooking the water. The house is conveniently located for day or overnight trips, we visited the botanical gardens at St. Vito, and saw the quetzals at San Gerardo de la Dota (overnighters). Day trips included Quepos, Uvita and San Isidro. Even though we stayed for two months, we still had several adventures planned that we did not have time to do. We had a wonderful vacation thanks to Judith's beautiful house/gardens and her generous hospitality. Looking forward to a return visit.

Fantastic jungle home

5 of 5
We had a fabulous time at the Sierpe del Pacifico property. If you are looking for a wild Costa Rican adventure, then you won't be disappointed. The home is beautiful, and the views stunning. We were awakened by howler monkeys every morning and found them sleeping on the property during the day, and most mornings a large troupe of white-faced capuchin monkeys passed right by the house. There were lots of birds to watch, and a fruit garden to go pick your own fruit...paradise found! We took a night tour of the mangrove and saw mammals (including squirrel monkeys), birds, crocs, caimans and snakes. We took a horseback riding tour and were wowed by the generosity of Rosita and her family on their farmstead; we went fishing in the ocean and caught five species of fish including red snapper, albacore tuna and roosterfish - while seeing porpioses and sea turtles to boot! The house is well equipped, the staff are welcoming and friendly. When we went in March it was hot and humid for us northerners - an outdoor shower might be a nice addition to the property for a quick cool down - but all in all we were wowed with this portion of our trip.

Tropical Hideaway

5 of 5
Sol y Luna is a beautifully manicured tropical paradise, perfectly located on the part peninsula you want to be. The area is friendly and adventurous, Montezuma is great town and a short adventure away from the west side that you'll also want to explore. The property itself is pure and simple, has everything you need for a peaceful stay and its hosts are very much like family, ever willing to help you with whatever you may need. Will definitely be back to make more memories!
