Our Favorite Place in Nicaragua

5 of 5
It was hard to leave this beautiful house in the hills above SJDS and the fantastic care of Luis and his wife. We spent 13 nights enjoying the surroundings, sounds of howler monkeys, many different species of birds, amazing view of the ocean and Costa Rica beyond. Some of the highlights were having Kenny Nakai, chef extraordinaire; prepare us a gourmet four course dinner for us at Casa Roja. We spent our mornings hiking, bird watching and visiting local beaches. We were fortunate enough to time our visit with the arrival of hundreds of sea turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs on Playa La Flor. In the afternoons we enjoyed reading, relaxing, swimming and partaking in the local Nicaraguan Rum. Evening sunsets were impossible to describe as the sky continually changed colors and thunderstorms began their almost nightly show in the distance. After dinner, a glass of wine or a Nica Libre, friends, music, dancing fire flies and lightening shows over Costa Rica were a spectacular end to the day. The casitas are perfectly designed for families or friends traveling together, giving everyone their own space and privacy. The bathrooms are luxurious and the bedrooms large with ceiling fans above the beds and enough solar power to run them all night. We used the kitchen and outdoor grill to cook the majority of our meals and enjoyed them at the outdoor dining table. Fred was an absolute pleasure to correspond with and was always easy to reach and quick to respond to all of my questions; he was gracious enough to let us arrive a day earlier than planned, with very little notice! The location of the house was perfect; close enough to town for groceries or activities, but far enough that every time we came back we felt as if we were very far away “from it all”. We have rented houses through VRBO from South Africa to South America and several countries in Central America and would highly recommend Casa Roja and hope to someday return.

Beautiful beach house in a beautiful place

5 of 5
Had an unforgettable weekend with my family in this beautiful beach house. It has a nice design, a construction with quality materials and special details. All three rooms have air conditioning and there are a lot of hammocks and a hanging bed. In the front, the beach is nice and in the back part of the house there is a beautiful estuary. My kids loved being pulled by the boat on the towable tube and did some waterskiing. Through the estuary you can also reach and visit a protected mangrove forest area, which is a dream. We entered one of the channels with the boat, surrounded by the impressive forest and saw different kind of birds and a big crocodile. We also had fun with the boogie boards on the waves and tried to practice some surfing. The service of Chamba and Morena was outstanding. We look forward to rent this house again.

Beautiful Estate

5 of 5
The house was very well equipped with everything you would need for your stay. The property was well maintained by Jonathan and the house was always neat and cleaned by Karen the housekeeper who live in a separate house on the property. The grand kids loved the pool and the adults loved the huge patio, with grill and dinning area off the main living area. We had 7 adults, 3 grandkids and plenty of room for everyone. The washer and dryer were wonderful and the refrigerator with ice and filtered water was put to good use. A note to owner the filter needs to be changed. The house was a little hard to find, could use a sign with the name of the estate on the gate. Use American dollars instead of local currency. There is a bank in the local mall that will give you US dollars and a large super market also. The locals know how to convert currency which you will lean very quickly how to do, I suggest that for fresh local produce shop in the smaller local stands, the prices are way cheaper than the super market and really really good.
