Cayman Reef Resort was exactly the vacation we needed to recooperate from the long, cold Midwest winter. It was a quiet and relaxing during our stay because it was the beginning of the off-season. We had the pool to ourselves most of the time. The pool always seemed to be the perfect temperature morning, noon, or night! The beach is literally right outside the back of the resort. It was beautiful turquoise water and had light gray sand that does not burn the feet. Again, not too crowded during this time, perfect for getting an umbrella and lounge chairs that are proved by the CRR. Unit #12 was very clean and up to date. It included a washer and dryer, wi-fi, free US phone service, tv/dvd, and even a dishwasher. It had two balconies with tables and chairs. They had 2 beach umbrellas, sand toys, and a cooler. Yes, you can take a cooler full of whatever beverages and food you like to the pool and the beach. Very nice! There was a 30% chance of rain every day. It rained 1 time for less than 5 minutes during the whole week. It was quite humid, though. Air conditioning is a must for sleeping, I would say. Unit #12 has central air so that was not a problem either. A cab ride from the airport was $25US. Cayman money and US money are used on the island. However, the smaller establishments "guess" on the US price. Everything was a little on the pricey side. The grocery store was the best place for decent prices. There are buses that run the 7 mile beach area. They were $1-$2US depending on how far you go. There were 2 grocery stores, liquor stores, restaurants, car rental, gas station, and a crosswalk within 20 minute walk any direction. Most are within 5 minutes. Kirk's Grocery even lets you push the cart to your place and then you leave it by the street and they retrieve it. That was nice if you had a lot to carry. The excursions are not within walking distance, but they will pick you up at your condo. The Marriott was only a few buildings down the beach and you can rent almost any water equipment there. There was also a snorkel and gear rental across the street. You can snorkel right outside the CRR or almost any beach anywhere on the island. We felt very safe and secure in our Cayman Reef Resort and the surrounding area too. The only thing I would recommend for this unit would be Tupperware, or foil, or something to keep your food and leftovers covered/fresh.
