My wife and I had been debating for almost a year where to spend our next vacation, but coming from Chicago, we wanted a tropical place for sure. After some thinking and advice from friends we decided to spend a week in Puerto Rico, no hassle getting passports or worrying about another currency. Although my wife was excited I have to admit I was hesitant at the beginning given the fact that flying with a 3 year old girl and a 1 year old boy is never easy. Nonetheless, the flight there was uneventful, and the fun started as soon as we got to the island. Although the pictures from the website were nice, honestly there are no words to describe the beautiful scenery at Palmas del Mar. The villa was cozy, comfortable, clean, and basically impeccable, something that is of utmost importance for us given that there’s nothing that our kids love more than playing in the floor.
Overall, it was a perfect mix between the beaches, literally in your backyard, the green abundant mountains, and the rain forest just a few minutes away. Sunrises were exciting, with the kids jumping on the balcony ready to run to the beach, and sunsets were simply peaceful, platonic and “aphrodisiac”.
We were able to enjoy the beach almost every day, and everyone was extremely friendly and relaxed. Only two days we skipped the beach as we reserved a day to visit the Old San Juan and another day to spend at the rain forest “El Yunque”. Old San Juan ended up being unique and unreal scenery, as we felt transported to Europe for a whole day. At El Yunque, our kids spent all their energy running up and down chasing butterflies and the water dripping down the rocks by the clear water river. Although a tiring trip, I basically didn’t want to leave given my special interest in botanic and tropical ecosystems.
I feel we couldn’t ask for more, we always have high expectations of our vacations and are almost never met, but this time they were definitely exceeded. The owners were extremely pleasant, polite, responsive, and available 24/7, making the whole vacation planning much more smoother and enjoyable. In fact, just two days after coming back to the Chicago’s cold wind, we reserved our trip back for next year at the same villa. I think we got ourselves a new family vacation place for years to come and for our children to create and cherish beautiful tropical memories.
