          ANOTHER PERFECT WEEK

          5 of 5
We were fortunate enough to return to the Castle this year. We were guests 2 years ago and last year I was not fast enough to book before our travel week was snatched up by some other lucky guests (wish colleges would post their break schedules years in advance). Staying elsewhere while on Anguilla made us appreciate the Castle (and Paul and Elise) all that much more. The Castle itself is everything a fussy, demanding traveler could ask for. Luxurious yet comfy and inviting. Casual enough to hang in your bathing suit all day but the lighting in the bathrooms is what you need to put on that perfect make up face. The Castle is as much OR as little as you want. Great home base to "do" the island OR the place you have to force yourself to leave. Very convenient location and personally, I like the fact that the neighbors are local Anguilla folk, always ready with a friendly wave and "how was the beach". As others have noted, the photos on VRBO do not do the Castle justice. Can't say you get what you see because it is so much better than the photos. As a frequent VRBO user (since its inception) it is refreshing to have Paul and Elise take care of everything. No nickel and dimeing, they have done all the calculations for you (tax, insurance, etc. etc.) It is a luxury these days to know exactly what you are getting (and can expect) upfront. Their expertise on things Anguilla and their hospitality are the added bonus. Eileen, the keeper of the Castle, has been with Paul and Elise from the beginning (that speaks volumes). Easy to see why. Nothing is too much for her (especially the pounds of sand that seem to accompany us home from the beach). We so enjoyed seeing her every day and she has great tips on how to enjoy the island. Not sure how Paul and Elise figured out how to improve upon perfection BUT the new hammocks are amazing. They are always looking for ways to improve their guests stay at the Castle. Well, not sure how they managed it but the boats down below were bigger and had more bling than in previous years. The rainbows were brighter, the weather was more perfect, the bugs were non-existent, the water more clear, the beaches more sandy and the turtles more plentiful. Quick foodie tips: RUN to AXA Seafood, truly one of the best on the island. Madeariman and Jacala are multiple visit musts. Veya and Barrel Stay, still worth every calorie. We returned home yesterday and will be checking 2015 school break dates tomorrow for our return.

HEAVEN FOR OUR GROUP OF 14

          5 of 5
I led my family of 14 (5 adults, 9 teenagers) on what turned out to be the vacation of a lifetime at Joyce and Henri Verne's magnificent Castles on the Sea. I barely have the words to describe how perfect this "double" villa is for a relaxing vacation. First of all, the gorgeous pictures on the internet are all true, but of course, what makes this place better than the internet is the incredible, doting, lovely staff: Warren--a world class chef, Sylvan--the hardworking houseman who keeps the grounds perfect and Curlene and Beverly who keep the villas spotless and do your clothes as well! The nice thing about the grounds is that there are so many places to gather to be together--and to be alone if you wish to quietly read or nap. My teenagers took to croquet as if they had played their entire lives and by the end of the week as if their lives depended on it. We had a serious croquet tournament! Being able to swim in the gorgeous water right off the villa was heavenly and actually, far better than going in off a beach where you ended up full of sand. Waking up each morning, we would swim, eat a fabulous breakfast and then lounge. We never had to worry about getting a chair, or crowds or lines. "No worries, mon"--it is true. The owners, Henri and Joyce are lovely, so pleasant to deal with and are happy to answer any questions and make suggestions about things to do. It is also very nice to have 2 villas--versus one big house, because our group sort of split up into the early to bed crowd and those who stay up until 2 am. We could have killer scrabble games going on and not disturb the others in the other villa. The villa is comfortable, not so fancy that you feel like you're afraid to relax and put your feet up. The food was spectacular and we all enjoyed gathering every night to whatever Warren made--lobster, fresh fish, chicken and oh, those desserts. Yes, as others have indicated, the key lime pie is the best and this from a lifelong pie baker. The home is always kept immaculate by Beverly and Curlene--they are like church mice, you don't see them--they just stealthily kept our messes under control. Your privacy is never compromised by the large staff that maintains this home. I saw a case of Red Stripe on sale today in the grocery store and my heart went pitter-pat--not for my love of beer, which I don't even drink, but for my fond memories of Jamaica and Castles on the Sea. I feel lucky to have stayed there.
