                      JUST AWESOME

                      5 of 5
Three of us spent a week in this awesome old cottage. Everything was as advertised and more. Our only regret was that we didn't spend more time there. Our mission was to see as much of Joshua Tree NP as we could so we only got to enjoy the great front porch for early morning coffee or evening cocktail which was always near or after sundown. Would have loved to walk the canyon right behind the cottage. Beautiful scenery. Met and talked a while with Cheryl and her husband John. They were great to talk with and were a wealth of info on the area and the history of the cottage . All three of us enjoyed the conversation immensely. Cheryl even loaned us a cooler for our car travels and let me access her Wi-Fi in a slight emergency I had. Can't thank them enough for a great time and place to stay. The cottage is stocked with all sorts of info and maps of things to see and do and Cheryl always had an answer for all our questions. It's also stocked with everything you would have at home, not a rental. I think the kitchen might be better stocked than my house. We wish we could have seen the tortoise but didn't. We watched for him every day but never saw him. Did see a good size snake on the bottom of the driveway and many birds around and we heard several Coyotes howling. The stars at night were amazing since there is no ambient light to spoil them. My wife and I are hoping to return in the fall to finish the park and spend some more time relaxing at the cottage this time. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the area, much better and more peaceful than any hotel or motel and the price is very reasonable. Thanks again Cheryl!

This home was spectacular! The view was amazing, the architecture is one of a kind, and the our needs were met. I would love to return here again.

GREAT HOUSE GREAT OWNER GREAT PARK

                      5 of 5
My daughter and I stayed here during part of her college spring break. We had a great time at the house and in the area. Everything seemed new inside and was very clean. The beds and couches / chairs were very comfortable. The kitchen and appliances were also nice. We cooked two dinners and all our breakfasts and it was easy. The HD TV was nice and large, perfect for some March Madness games. The wifi was also excellent, very fast and reliable. Nicole provides a single serve coffee machine with lots of coffee, a particularly nice convenience if you want to get an early start for hikes in the National Park. She's a great owner and easy to deal with - always willing to answer a question about the house or the area. The hot tub was a perfect place to recover from a long day of hikes. It was easily accessible from one of the bedrooms and nicely screened and private. It would be hard to find a better deal for 2 to 4 people in the Joshua Tree area. Having stayed in both Twentynine Palms and now Yucca Valley, I would say that I preferred Yucca Valley. There are some restaurants near the house with good ratings (we liked Gonzo Tacos) and easy access to various stores. You also save time if you are coming from either northern or southern CA. I enjoyed the access via the western entrance to the National Park. Plus you are minutes away from the Black Rock Canyon area if you want an early morning or sunset experience. Don't miss the hikes to 49 Palms Oasis (nicely graded trail), or better yet, Lost Palms Oasis, if its open (longer but a better adventure). If you want to just wander among the rocks and washes, I would also recommend lightly visited Stirrup Tank, which a park ranger told us about. These are longer adventures, so I'd check with the rangers of course about what's best for you. The traditional short hikes and road side exhibits are also nice. Joshua Tree National Park is definitely a hidden gem and Coyote Retreat is a great place to visit it from.
