Home from home

We have just returned from a superb two-week holiday in this amazing holiday home in Woodland Hills. We were two adults and two children from England, and I think it rates as one of the best holidays we have ever had. We arrived after a long journey, and an additional eight hours to the day, feeling very tired. The house was spotless and the photographs you see in the advert, which attracted us to the property, represented exactly what we got. It was truly a home from home. The location is in a safe residential area with easy access to the freeway and not far from all the major attractions of Malibu, Santa Monica, Hollywood, Beverly Hills etc. The only downside was the fact that the amount of traffic on the freeways in Los Angeles has to be amongst the worst in the world. The property manager, Angelique, lives on site and offers a personal guided tour of the area. We took advantage of this at the start of our holiday as we did not know the area and were too jet lagged to want to drive. I am so glad we did. Firstly we were shown places that we would not have visited on our own which was absolutely superb, but secondly it helped us plan the rest of the holiday and significantly enhanced our enjoyment of the following days. Angelique’s knowledge and easy going and friendly personality was very welcome in a country where we knew nobody. Her tips were invaluable, as was her on site presence when we lost the keys to the house!! When we booked the holiday we did not have the benefit of the good reviews that have been posted since then. We can whole-heartedly endorse them and it was so nice to come back to after a hard days sightseeing and driving. We all enjoyed the pool both for rest days and for cooling off in the evening after a hot day. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well equipped but the air conditioning did struggle a bit when the temperature was very high. There are decent local restaurants and shopping malls to accommodate those who don’t wish to go far in addition to local supermarkets etc (some within walking distance) if you wish to cater for yourselves. We did not wish to leave!

Nice place in the valley with a really nice pool.

The house was great - very California ranch house kind of feel. The pool was big and rather deep, actually. Once it was a diving pool, I think, but the board has been removed. The two master bedrooms look out on the pool, as well as the main living room. There is a dining room, but we never used it as we ate all of our meals at one of the many tables on the patio. The house was very clean, and well maintained. We had a few issues on check in, but the manager was very responsive and sent a housekeeper to deal with all of them rather quickly, so we can't complain there. The only small issue we had was that the advertisement is for a 4 bedroom, but the small print in the ad clarifies that it's actually a 3 bedroom, and the 4th bedroom is available as a suite addition. I can see why she did it this way, as the HomeAway website does not really lend itself to that kind of precision in the search algorithm, and she obviously wanted tomake it clear that it had 4 bedrooms for those looking for a 4 bedroom. We paid the extra for the extra suite and used it - but to be honest, the suite is only separated from the main house by a pretty thin door, so if you actually get double booked with someone in the suite... you're gonna have to say hello to them every now and then - especially as they share the pool and patio. All in all, a good bargain, and a good experience.
