Wonderful hideaway

5 of 5
Our family of 3 (and our old golden retriever) absolutely LOVED our stay here. It is as charming a home as you imagine from the pictures, tucked away on a very quiet and peaceful stretch of river. It is an older home that cozies right up with the help of their great woodburning fireplace, it's tastefully decorated and modernized in just the right ways while still maintaining some great character. The living room was well laid out and comfortable enough to let our 9-month-old scoot around without too much worry. We at one time had considered bringing another family with us for the weekend, but were glad we didn't - while the house has ample space, having two separate families/couples could find its challenges. Most notably since the home is older and sound travels unobstructed throughout the separate areas of the house. We felt right at home - and enjoyed being in and around the house so much that we didn't really leave! We relaxed, went for canoe rides, cooked lots of food, drank bourbon late into the evening on the deck with river view and generally did all the enjoying that was possible here in one weekend. Cute little "town" of Duncan Mills is within short walking distance - and they have a few antique shops, a very adequate market for basic groceries, beer, wine and saltwater taffy. Also a coffee shop that was always quite crowded, surprisingly. And the Blue Heron always seemed a little too surly for our liking, but our younger single selves did have some internal hunger pangs when we saw the sign for "Live Music, Saturday Night." Alas, we sang lullabyes to the baby for bed and afterwards grilled some killer steaks on the grill while drinking a fabulous bottle of Sonoma wine. We've rented many a VRBO house around the country, and this place is definitely a top 3. Can't wait to come back ...

Great Location...Great Hosts

5 of 5
This studio apartment was the perfect location for our four day visit to wine country. Ideal for visiting in the Healdsburg, Santa Rosa, Calistoga, St. Helena and Dry Creek areas but also with easy access to Sonoma and Napa. The property itself was comfortable, clean and well-stocked. The pictures on the webpage showed exactly what we found. It was the view from the balcony that sold us on the webpage and it did not disappoint in person. We started each day with coffee on the balcony and ended it with a soak in the hot tub beautifully situated in the trees. Julie and Tony strike the perfect note as hosts. They make you feel welcome while at the same time honouring your privacy and independence. We spent a half hour with them shortly after arriving and received many wonderful recommendations for vineyards, restaurants and other activities in the area. Take notes... each recommendation was a winner whether it was for restaurants or vineyards or picnic spots or for events going on in the area. Our favourite restaurants included the seafood plates at Willi's in Healdsburg, the tapas at Bravas and the wine pairing dinner on Thursday night at Flavour in Santa Rosa. Julie also recommended Farmer's markets where we could purchase picnic supplies and the best vineyards for picnic spots. (Truett Hurst) We highly recommend this location, especially for couples looking for a peaceful, relaxing getaway in California wine country.

Over-the-Top!

5 of 5
There's not enough room here to properly convey how wonderful this property and its owners are, but let me try to be concise. Not only was the house as advertised, it surpassed our expectations beyond belief. We stayed 10 days, and every day was an "OH WOW" day. The personal touches these folks provide upon your arrival, and the personal touches they put in every room of the house to make sure you are comfortable are without rival. All 12 of us were so at home that we never wanted to leave. They are wonderful, engaging, responsive people whose goal is to make you LOVE YOUR VACATION. In their house, it was easy. Look at the pictures to see how fabulous the house is, but only when you get to experience the hospitality will you truly understand what an absolute GEM Kevin and Maureen and their house as a total package are. I have stayed in many vacation properties around the world, and this ranks at the very top in my book!
