Didn't see a whale but we did have a good time!

Great property right on the water. House was clean and as advertised. Well stocked kitchen for cooking. A few tips for future travelers. 1. This house has no cable or internet. 2. The only wireless service that works is Verizon (No sprint or AT&T) 3. You have to haul out your own garbage or take it to the local dump. The dump is unmarked and impossible to find (get directions from the owner first). 4. There is no sandy beach outside the house at all, you have to drive or walk to Black Sands Beach. 5. There is a grocery story with great shrimp cocktails, fish and chips, clam chowder etc.. It is by the marina find it your first day.. 6. The drive in is long and curvy so much so we almost did not want to leave the cove to go to the redwoods. 7. There is a Shuffleboard table in the garage but the garage is off limits. If you are looking for a fun activity I would ask the owner if you can use it. 8. The North coast is foggy. In seven days we never saw a sunset and saw the stars one night for an hour. This is not so cal. 9. There is a house phone which is nice if your cell phone does not work and you have a meeting with your boss Monday morning. 10. Golf Course is not bad I nice little touch. 11. We saw a small pizzeria but never ate there. Looked busy 12. You have to wash the linens etc before you leave. 13. Lots of mussels out in front of the house on the rocks, google how to prepare before you come. Overall we got the experience that we were looking for lots of time with the family with little communication to the outside world. Thank you Damon

Lovely getaway in the Lost Coast

5 of 5
We were pleasantly surprised by Bernie's round house, particularly by the beautiful ocean view. The house is very inviting, light, and comfortable. We loved having a washer and dryer (fear of poison oak from hiking) and the DVD player for late night movie watching was an added plus. In all of our interactions with Bernie, she was very accommodating and friendly. We went to Shelter Cove to take advantage of hiking in the Lost Coast without the camping, and it was an absolutely perfect experience. The Lost Coast is spectacular! We hiked in higher areas where the sun was shining during the day, and by the time we returned to Bernie's in the late afternoon the fog had cleared every day! The Black Sand Beach was also the perfect landing place for post-hiking picnics and gentle strolls. If you're thinking of going, you'll be so happy you did!

Lost Coast beauty

5 of 5
Awesome property! It is above & beyond my best expectations. When I entered the front door the beauty of the view of the ocean & the decor of the home took my breath away. I knew at once that I had found the perfect location for a relaxing & restorative holiday. The accommodations are superior to most found in vacation rentals. You will find books, CD's,games, even golf clubs for your enjoyment. Do bring your own groceries & beverages. There isn't much available in Shelter Cove.& it is expensive. If you don't wish to prepare meals, there is a charming restaurant in walking distance & a grill at the marina. For fishermen it is outstanding location & the harbor also is in walking distance. You can hike for miles from the black beach along the coast. Just enjoying the beauty of the ocean from one of the decks or the patio with a good book was my favorite pastime. I highly recommend Seadance on the Lost Coast at Shelter Cove.
