December in La Jolla

5 of 5
The apartment of Michael and Lisa was a perfect place for our two families. It is conveniently located close to downtown La Jolla and the beaches are only a few blocks away. Each morning began with a run or walk to La Jolla Cove. We could not have asked for more accommodating hosts. We were greeted with delicious cookies, coffee, and wine. They provided us with a stylishly decorated apartment with all the amenities necessary for a pleasant stay. There were books to read and DVDs to watch. We could eat and/or just sit outside and visit. From the living room/dining room area we could watch the sunset over the ocean. When needed we could wash and dry our clothes. The apartment is situated in a wonderful neighborhood. There are many interesting homes, many built in the 1930-40s, with yards full of fascinating flowers, shrubs, and trees. There is always something new to see and enjoy. Lisa is a potter and you will want to look among the plants in their yard to find the examples of her work that she and Michael have placed there. Also, they were readily available to us when we had questions or needed some advice about the area. The apartment was within walking distance of markets, restaurants, and shops. We enjoyed a delightful Sunday Farmer’s Market a few blocks away at the elementary school. The listing description is accurate. The property both inside and out was immaculate and well-maintained. We were on a tight schedule so only stayed four days. We would suggest planning to stay longer. One could not ask for better accommodations in the La Jolla area.

Reality meets fantasy

5 of 5
I was looking to escape the Boston cold last winter and Encinitas seemed like a great place for a month-long business relocation and mind relocation. My wife researched 3 places on VRBO that looked promising. When I looked at the first one, the Tropical Plantation Beach Cottage, I decided that was the one. My wife pleaded with me to look at the other two because she had spent so much time talking with the owners, but my mind was made up. Rarely does reality match expectations but when I arrived the cottage exceeded my already high expectations. If you were passing by it looks like a very nice house in a very nice quiet neighborhood. When you enter you are transported to a serene, amazing fantasy. From the huge palm trees lit at night, to the multiple fireplaces, to the comfortable canopied cushioned lounge in the back (with HI DEF TV and music) next to the private hot tub, this is the place dreams are made of. When he is not off on some amazing adventure, Eric is like having a friendly, handy neighbor living close by along with his trusted companion Ono the dog. If you need him he is there, if you are fine on your own you will not see him. I decided not to rent a car for my time in Encinitas and it was a great decision. I was able to walk just about anywhere I needed, which included the beach, a number of restaurants on Highway 101, the meditation gardens and the hardware store. Anytime I did not feel like walking I just used an Uber taxi, usually available within 2 minutes. I could go on, but I think the best thing that I can say in a few words is that I booked up 2 months for the following year when I was checking out. Those two months happen to be coming real soon, as I will be checking in this year on January 1. My only fear in writing this review is that someone else might try to rent for January and February next year. Please do not do that or I will throw small rocks at your window. But feel free to inquire about the other 10 months. Enjoy.
