Our family of 3 (and our old golden retriever) absolutely LOVED our stay here. It is as charming a home as you imagine from the pictures, tucked away on a very quiet and peaceful stretch of river. It is an older home that cozies right up with the help of their great woodburning fireplace, it's tastefully decorated and modernized in just the right ways while still maintaining some great character. The living room was well laid out and comfortable enough to let our 9-month-old scoot around without too much worry. We at one time had considered bringing another family with us for the weekend, but were glad we didn't - while the house has ample space, having two separate families/couples could find its challenges. Most notably since the home is older and sound travels unobstructed throughout the separate areas of the house.
We felt right at home - and enjoyed being in and around the house so much that we didn't really leave! We relaxed, went for canoe rides, cooked lots of food, drank bourbon late into the evening on the deck with river view and generally did all the enjoying that was possible here in one weekend.
Cute little "town" of Duncan Mills is within short walking distance - and they have a few antique shops, a very adequate market for basic groceries, beer, wine and saltwater taffy. Also a coffee shop that was always quite crowded, surprisingly. And the Blue Heron always seemed a little too surly for our liking, but our younger single selves did have some internal hunger pangs when we saw the sign for "Live Music, Saturday Night." Alas, we sang lullabyes to the baby for bed and afterwards grilled some killer steaks on the grill while drinking a fabulous bottle of Sonoma wine.
We've rented many a VRBO house around the country, and this place is definitely a top 3. Can't wait to come back ...
