We just returned home from our stay at the Braemar Beach house for 6 weeks over "winter" time (coming from Canada it seems strange to call it winter when it was absolutely gorgeous weather 95% of the time). The location of this property can't be beat, a short walk to the ocean and a very short walk to the bay and a quick 20 min drive to all the attractions downtown. I did a lot of research on houses/locations and this has got to be the best! My husband and I were there with our 4 month old and 2.5 yr old. The backyard and games room were perfect for my toddler (who learned how to play on the Wii with Daddy) and he even figured out how to play some of the many supplied board games. They also supplied a regular stroller, umbrella stroller and restaurant style high chair (that we didn't know about ahead of time). And we paid a small amount for a Pack N Play and a regular high chair. It's a small house but you honestly don't need more space since you spend so much time outdoors. They supply lots of extras which was nice (detergent, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towel etc..) Also the fact they leave you leftover food items (oil, vinegar, spices, sugar, flour) is so handy when you don't want to buy all the basics just to use a little bit. We've been to other places that throw all that out between guests which is crazy. The beds were comfy and the new TV's in each room were a plus.
I can't say enough good things about Nancy's Vacation Rentals too. They are so prompt to answer any questions and look after all issues. The Wii volume wasn't working when we arrived and they worked hard to solve the problem, even when we were too busy enjoying San Diego to return their calls/emails! The owner of the house actually ended up just buying a brand new Wii and bringing it over one day!
The only minor downside is the fairly large amount of homeless people in the area. We aren't used to that where we are from and they didn't cause any problems but it made me a bit wary walking by the local library a block away with my 2 kids (as that is where many of them gather on the lawn). But even with that, I'd still return to this house in a heartbeat.
We didn't get to use the surf boards but they look brand new. And the bikes are really nice to have for a beautiful ride on the bay boardwalk. If you stay here, make sure to try Better Buzz Coffee on Mission Blvd (awesome drinks!), Rum Jungle (Mission Blvd) for an acai bowl and SandBox pizza at Grand and Cass St!
