Perfect Pet Friendly Cottage

5 of 5
Even better than expected...especially the view from the back deck. Could hear AND see the surf and smell the salt air. Cottage is stocked well and clean as a whistle. Diane and Michael are wonderful hosts as is their doggie Capri. Easy access to creek, dunes, beach. Charming artistic cottages, lovely succulent gardens and very friendly locals. Bike rides to Valley Ford, Freestone, Bodega variety of climbs, long beautiful stretches of ranch land and rewarding views. Be sure to visit the location sites for "the Birds" and come back to cottage to watch the classic. Bike ride around bay good choice for a more leisurely ride. YUMMY chowder and tri tip sandwich at Spud Point and deeelish crepes at Artisan Cheeses. Get a kite at Second Wind or Candy and Kite and walk minutes from the Cottage to the dunes and catch a great wind. After doggie roams the dunes, there is a hose in both front and back yard to wash of the sand. Stars are sooooo bright and sunsets/sunrises are breathtaking.

Lovely getaway in the Lost Coast

5 of 5
We were pleasantly surprised by Bernie's round house, particularly by the beautiful ocean view. The house is very inviting, light, and comfortable. We loved having a washer and dryer (fear of poison oak from hiking) and the DVD player for late night movie watching was an added plus. In all of our interactions with Bernie, she was very accommodating and friendly. We went to Shelter Cove to take advantage of hiking in the Lost Coast without the camping, and it was an absolutely perfect experience. The Lost Coast is spectacular! We hiked in higher areas where the sun was shining during the day, and by the time we returned to Bernie's in the late afternoon the fog had cleared every day! The Black Sand Beach was also the perfect landing place for post-hiking picnics and gentle strolls. If you're thinking of going, you'll be so happy you did!
