Luxurious Seclusion

5 of 5
My husband and I stayed for three nights. We were looking for something that would allow us to get away from it all, enjoy nature, and act as a good base from which we could drive north to see some redwoods. Casa Cielo exceeded our expectations in almost every way. This property is in a very secluded community; after you enter the development gate using a passcode, you then drive 10-15 minutes up a steep and windy dirt road, passing a few other private homes along the way. You then enter another code to access the Casa Cielo driveway, and then one more to open the lockbox to get the key. Our rental car was a Ford Focus hatchback and managed to get to the house without a problem, but it was summer and every day was dry when we were there. I would have felt more confident in a vehicle suited for "off-roading," like most SUVs or trucks, especially if we would have had precipitation. Once inside, we were stunned by how beautiful and high-quality this property is. You can tell it was built relatively recently--everything seems brand new and is high-end: Grohe faucets, new Samsung flat-screen TVs (I think the bedroom TV is also 3D-ready), a gas six-burner Wolf range, etc. Beautiful wood floors and ceilings throughout, plus gorgeous stone tiling in the bathrooms and big windows add to the rustic luxury. We even took advantage of the new washer and dryer, as the owners left detergent. The house was perfectly clean, the owner gave clear instructions, and I would absolutely recommend this property to others. Tips: At night it is SO dark here, so on your first night, try to get to the house before it gets dark to make it easier on yourself. Similarly, if you want to use the hot tub, familiarize yourself with how to get from the house down to the tub, open it up, etc. before it gets dark. The hot tub is not on the main deck—it is down a path outside the house that isn't lit. Also, be aware that if you are hoping to do some good stargazing like we were, you may not have any fog-less nights. Our last night was the best but even then, there was still heavy, patchy fog. We were a bit letdown by the view of the water too—it’s minimal from this property. Between the fog, some large trees, and the position of the Casa Cielo lot, you really won’t see the water from the house much at all. As for nearby fun, we loved the little town of Guerneville--great casual restaurants (Betty Spaghetti, Dick Blomsters, Boon Eat+Drink) and an awesome food market, Food for Humans.

Incredible Views

5 of 5
My husband and I spent the first four days of our California vacation at this Ocean Bluff home. We had a very relaxing time just walking the bluff trails, spying on harbor seals, staring at the views from the many perfectly-placed windows, and gazing at the phenomenal show of stars at night from the master deck. Our dinners consisted of whatever we bought at Surf Market in Gualala to grill, along with our favorite local wines and cheeses. It was an immensely restful vacation, and we slept like babies on the very comfortable king bed each night. We look forward to a return visit!

Perfect Getaway

5 of 5
If we could give this vacation home ten stars, we would!! We typically rent 2-3 vacation homes in California every year, and my husband and I agreed that this was the best stay we've had in a long time. We stayed for three nights last weekend, and everything about this home was perfect. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived, and the bottle of wine was a lovely surprise! The hot tub, outdoor shower, and deck were just amazing. We watched dolphins from the deck. We loved the huge fireplace in the living room and had several fires - perfect for those chilly, foggy nights and mornings! We love to cook, and we routinely bring a bunch of essential equipment with us when we rent vacation homes, but this home had everything we needed, including sharp knives! The upstairs bedroom has a very comfortable bed and a cozy sitting area. The Elk General Store had all of the essentials: milk, yogurt, pasta, and wine. We cannot wait to come back next summer!
