Panoramic views, huge hot tub, super service, 5*

5 of 5
We've been going to Big Bear for 10+ years and it has always been hit or miss--especially thru the rental companies: they don't give a crap about customer service once they have your $$$. We've had better luck with VRBO---at least you are dealing with owners. I prefer Big Bear in the off season or week-days during ski season vs the crowds on weekends & holidays---just much more relaxing. This house is pretty awesome---it doesn't look like much from the street/outside, but first impressions can be very misleading (there was an bit of uh-oh moment when we pulled up). When we walked into the house that concern vanished---it is REALLY nice---the kitchen has top end appliances, the custom island & stone work is all super nice, and the main floor is perfect for multiple families. But the deck really makes it great--it is probably bigger than the house---you could put 50 people out there for a party and not be crowded, and the hot-tub is perfectly private + big.....a few niggling issues---the Big Bear sun is really, really intense & my wife got a sunburn b/c she underestimated the summer rays, but the nearby hiking/mountain bike trail (300 yards from the front door up the street) more than made up for it. The house doesn't have AC--so close the blinds in the afternoon else the afternoon sun can really heat up the house---but again, it is Big Bear---summer temps are maybe low 80s. If you like easy access to the trails & a 2 minute drive (I actually think after a snowfall you could ski down to Big Bear Mountain) down to the resort/golf course, plus about the best views of the lake + mountains we've stayed in (the pics don't lie--it is really great on the back deck), we haven't found anything better up there. We'll be back this winter if it is available.
