Our family of five with 3 children stayed here from September 2013 to June 2014. Having decided to move here from Germany, we took on the lease here after seeing the house on VRBO and having a few conversations with the Owner. Renting out “sign unseen” can be daunting and the other reviews here helped give us confidence perhaps it might help someone else.
Firstly, the location. The house is located in Montecito, and more importantly for many families with elementary school children it is in the MUS school district, a few minutes drive from here. Although we were ignorant to the fact, we are VERY happy we landed at this school. Many families rent here just so they can send their children to this very well financed and well run public school.
Secondly, the house. The house is spacious and well decorated which makes it very comfortable. As the owner does often spend time here when she is not renting, the kitchen (and house) is very fully stocked. We brought “stuff” with us from Germany but it was not at all necessary.
Thirdly, the extras; This is where, at least for us, it counted most since we came to Santa Barbara to enjoy the sunny outdoors. The house and gardens are laid out very well. Everything is where it should be. Starting from the back end of the property is the tennis court – perfectly situated and with gorgeous mountain views. Then comes the Guest house with its own enclosed pool area with a pool cover and beautiful shrubbery and a gate for added protection (we have a 2 year old). The pool area is well set up with enough very comfortable chaise-longues for the family. We had several families visiting during our extended stay and they were comfortably able to pack in a family of 5 with the provided extra mattress. There is a kitchenette but I don’t think it was ever used. Then as you stroll from the guest house to the main house, you pass the grassy area with a beautiful oak tree to the side providing just enough shade when you´ve had enough sun.
As you step from garden to the house, the patio is very tastefully decorated with a large table, couch and chairs, a fireplace, built-in grill, etc. All strategically placed next to the kitchen for easy access. This was really a highlight for us.
As with any house, from time to time something breaks and needs to be fixed. The owner was always very responsive in getting someone out for quick repairs as well as giving us the “inside scoop” on everything Santa
