My family and I stayed at this Mission Beach home in early July of 2014. This wouldn't be our first trip to San Diego, but it would be our first trip to Mission Beach. I'll focus specifically on this home for the review, but will leave with a few pointers for Mission Beach travelers based on a newbie's lessons learned.
The house was perfect for our family. We had a total of 4 adults, 2 teenagers, a 7 year old, 5 year old and 3 year old. That's a total of 9 people (including the little ones) and two cars. The house is three stories as described and had ample sleeping room for our crew. One family slept upstairs with two kids in the master bed, one family slept in the room on the 2nd floor and the teenagers and one adult took the first floor with the bunk beds. Everyone was very happy with their rooms, especially the family on the third floor. What an awesome view of the beach and a nice quiet room. The only knock we had on the first floor was that it could be quite noisy, meaning you could hear folks talking as they walked past the home on the way to the boardwalk.
All of the appliances seemed fairly new and worked perfectly. TVs in the living room and master bedroom worked fine and cable (ATT Uverse) was a nice plus.
When looking for a vacation rental I didn't understand why a few of the homes boasted about their parking garage or parking spaces. Well... Now I know! Parking can be a nightmare on Mission Beach. There's a lot of houses located on not a lot of space. Luckily, this home has premium parking! By premium, I mean we could fit our minivan in the garage and our sedan on the patio area next to the home. If you don't know Mission Beach, it's really hard to understand how awesome this. Also, parking can be intimidating if you're not use to using your mirrors and operating in tight places. We were nervous at first, but had it down within a day.
I'd say this home was perfectly located on the beach for us. It was just tad far enough away from the boardwalk to keep noise down to a minimum, but walking back and forth to the beach was a breeze. Ultra convenient. Our little ones had no problem with the walk.
We thoroughly enjoyed the bicycles, boogie boards, surf board and other beach gear. We were a little worried about the pacific ocean, but we all had a blast in the water.
Helpful Hint: Mission beach can get crowded on Saturday. But don't worry, things settle down nicely Sun - Fri!
