I booked Toad Hollow for myself, 3 friends, and my little dog to visit Mt. Shasta and do some day hiking. It was a great place to stay! The bedrooms were all comfortable, the kitchen was a wonderful combination of modern appliances and original touches, and the living areas were very welcoming. It was quite warm when we were there, but there's a whole-house fan the really cools down the 3 bedrooms upstairs quickly in the late afternoon/evening. Those bedrooms share a sizeable bathroom that's entered via one of the bedrooms, so put your soundest sleeper there. The downstairs bedroom has it's own bathroom, but the trade-off is that the whole-house fan doesn't hit downstairs so you need a regular fan and it doesn't cool down quite as much as the upstairs. House and yard were extremely clean and well kept, plenty of parking for our two cars in front of the house, with more parking we rarely used in the back. Good supplies and equipment in the kitchen; we enjoyed hanging out on the front porch watching the world go by and cooking each evening after being out and about all day. There's a nice size fenced yard with lots of grass for a little dog to roll around in. Great hikes we did in the vicinity include Squaw Valley/Cabin Creek and the Pacific Crest Trail to Porcupine Lake, along with the much more local McCloud waterfall walk/hike. At the house there's also a one-page guide for a walking tour of the historic buildings in McCloud, which is another interesting way to spend an hour or two. All 4 of us agreed this was one of the best places we've booked over the years!
