Birthday/Anniversary Getaway...

5 of 5
Every year (almost as if by design) our wedding anniversary follows my birthday. We try to do something special, but this year, with a particularly busy summer, I got way behind on planning and had to look for something at the last minute. My search turned up the Hideaway. What a find! Less than an hour from our home in Burbank, it really felt like we'd driven to northern California as far as feeling away from it all. Being able to bring our two dogs was icing on the cake. Although we never got to really meet Olga, the owner, face-to-face, she replied to emails almost instantly from our initial inquiry all the way to our departure. We had privacy, unobstructed views of the canyon, beautiful breezes and great restaurant and beach recommendations from Olga that were spot on. Our adult children and their dog joined us for the second night and as we all sat comfortably perched on the edge of the ravine taking in the exceptional view, we all agreed we need to come back - and for a longer stay. The house is beautifully decorated, clean and nicely appointed with everything you'd need in the kitchen, bath and laundry area. BTW, I am a bit biased as we own a vacation rental in Minnesota so we were taking lots of notes on how to make our property better for our guests... Thanks for sharing your very unique property Olga and Sam. We plan to return!

Sweet place in the woods

4 of 5
This is a lovely little place mid-way up Topanga canyon--i.e., away from it all. The host was very nice, and really focused on romantic touches like tea candles to light the path, a hammock in a secluded location, and a ready and waiting clean and delightful jacuzzi. It is more simple than fancy, but it is quite enchanting. If you are driving in and are exhausted from the flight/drive, you may want to call ahead to make sure the house is ready-we weren't able to check in until 7 pm despite the stated 4 pm check-in and were fried from driving through LA. The house is clean, cute, and well cared for. The bed was not overly comfortable, but the linens and pillows and towels were all nice quality. There are 3 flights of stairs to get to the house, so be prepared for a lovely walk up. Parking is super sketchy if the driveway is full--its on Topanga canyon road, which is curvy and full of crazy rushed drivers. It is totally self catered, so bring what you need because you won't want to leave once you get there--though the host is glad to supply what she may have on hand.

Absolutely Perfect

5 of 5
I can't say enough good things about Diana, Scott, and their home. They were there to meet us when we arrived, were available by phone before our stay to answer any questions, and were simply lovely hosts. Their hospitality and warmth truly made the trip! We are LA locals and wanted to have a little getaway for my birthday, and Scott greeted us a with a bottle of champagne and a great big smile, answered all of our questions, and kept offering ways to make our stay nicer. The digs are GORGEOUS. The decor is so cool - with lots of industrial-meets-beachy touches - and the grounds are so relaxing and beautiful. Tons of parking, a huge yard with fire pit, hammocks, and just a 5 min walk to the gate to the beach. It is a guest house on the property of the main house with a shared back yard, but it feels private and Diana and Scott really want you to feel at home. We had friends over to grill at night and the next morning had a mimosa brunch outside in the sun - it couldn't have been more peaceful. They were super flexible, kind, and professional - can't wait to stay there again!
