We were so glad we chose to rent Julie's apartment in Silver Lake rather than stay in a hotel.
The location is terrific. It offers a sanctuary away from the tourist madness, but is close enough to everything to provide a great base for exploring Los Angeles.
Silver Lake itself is a good base with some lovely shops, cafes and restaurants, but you are just a few minutes drive from the sights of Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Downtown and it's an easy drive to Universal Hollywood.
It takes a little longer - mainly down to traffic - to get to Santa Monica and Venice, but it's still more than manageable.
The house itself is furnished beautifully with a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, good air conditioning and fast wifi.
It was great to be able to cook some of our own meals and have a base for breakfast too.
The highlight though has to be the deck - fantastic views and a lovely place to sit, dine and drink during the day and evening.
Julie is the perfect host, providing some really usueful local information and tips - and a complimentary bottle of Californian wine.
I couldn't recommend this rental more highly if you're looking for somewhere to stay in LA..
