A Terrific Way To "Go Native" In La Jolla

5 of 5
Our family of four (mom, dad, 11-yr old girl, 15-yr old boy) just spent a terrific week staying at this apartment, which is situated right in the heart of La Jolla Village. This second floor apartment was spotless and very well appointed. We were honestly lacking nothing to make our stay comfortable. Within walking distance of restaurants, a good grocery store, the beach and other amenities, we really enjoyed going native for the week. The Farmers Market, held every Sunday, is ONE block away! A real bonus was the great patio that we enjoyed every morning and then every evening when we returned from our day of exploring. Although these points didn't detract from our family's enjoyment of the property, you may have different ideas of what constitutes a perfect vacation rental: 1) No pool 2) No off-street parking (we didn't have an issue finding on-street parking but La Jolla is densely populated and it may be an issue at certain times of the year). 3) No ceiling fans in the bedrooms. We slept with the windows open; it was a bit noisy with traffic first thing in the morning during the week. 4) The apartment is accessed by a flight of steps. 5) The place is a bit "lighting challenged" for reading at night. Finally, I can't say enough positive things about our hosts. They were very, very nice people who are clearly adept when it comes to managing the property appropriately for guests (they've been at it since 2006). Take some time to get to know them. They are dyed-in-the-wool Californians who are a wealth of knowledge!

charming cottage-you wont want to go home

5 of 5
A friend of mine suggested I consider home away rentals for my first alone vacation with my son. For what I was looking for in Lajolla I kept going back to this cottage. My first visit to Lajolla, this charming cottage was clean, updated, comfortable, peaceful and a great location. We felt like we were home. I will return again renting the same cottage. Marilyn made everything so easy for me and answered all my questions kindly. The ocean is a block away. Piatti restaurant is just around the corner having dined there twice within a week- I highly recommend. The village downtown is where all the shopping is, less than 1.5 miles- perfect walking everyday. I promise you won't want to return home. Great location to everything.

FANTASTIC PROPERTY FOR AN AMAZING PRICE!!!

5 of 5
Let me start by saying that I will definitely be staying here again and I found my San Diego area place to stay when in town. The unit is big and in great condition, the appliances are nicer than what I have at home, there is a nice big TV in the living room with cable and DVR, and, last but certainly not least, you can see the sunset on the ocean from the balcony (the profile pic is the balcony view and during our stay that piece of the ocean was where the sun set :) ). If you are not happy enough watching the sunset from the balcony, the unit is one very small block back from the ocean and takes a minute to walk to. When you walk to the beach, you go down a few stairs and you are on a beautiful sandy beach with two point breaks on either side. The beach is long enough not to be crowded at all and one of the points is the legendary Windansea surf break, so there is no lack of talented surfers to watch as you enjoy the sun and sand. Back at the condo, there is a large private back patio with a nice gas grill. The second night we were there we grilled up some steaks and made chili on the state of the art smooth electric range. Then the wife and I sat down to the dinning room table and enjoyed our dinner with a delicious bottle of wine that the owner so graciously gave to us! After dinner, we played monopoly (provided) and watched a couple of movies that we had DVRed on the comfy pull out couch in the living room... it was one of the best wedding anniversaries that we've had, thanks to this superb listing! Parking was perfect, right in the driveway of the condo, and the condo is located close to the shops and restaurants in La Jolla. However, I recommend ordering some pizza and garlic knots from Pizza on Pearl, which delivers to the condo. The WiFi was great, a washer and dryer were available to wash clothes, and there were even boogie boards and bikes available to use. It seems that the owner has really thought about everything we could have needed as each time the wife and I thought about something, sure enough, the condo had it. As for the noise issue that the one 4 star rating discussed, we never at anytime noticed any noise from the unit above and we know that people were there as we saw them walk into the unit. I'd be surprised if noise is ever an issue at this sleepy condo. Overall, an extremely beautiful and comfortable place to spend some quiet time in heaven!!!
