We arrived late on Friday evening. The street scene is typical for the area. It is darkly lit, mountain community with little pride of ownership until we reached The Flying Bear Cabin that is!! We were happy to see that parking was accessible in the gravel area in front of the house. We were so pleased to find that while the perimeter of the home was fenced in the back yard was still separated from the front by a fence so that our dogs could be either in the front or the back and that we could decide which. We immediately got our dogs into the back so that we could unload the car and it was so great having the mud room for the dogs. We put them out and shut the mudroom door for them to go out and in as they pleased, while we got settled in. We ate most of our meals in the lovely kitchen that had all utensils and cooking pans that we needed and while we brought all of our necessary food ingredients we noticed that the necessities were also seemingly available had we forgotten something(this is not something we have found to be the norm in other Big Bear rentals). We have stayed in studio's and 3 bedroom cabins, we have gone very luxurious and very simple and found that The Flying Bear was somewhere in the middle. Our children slept in the fold out bed (my son described the beds comfort to be in line with that of any pull out). We slept in the only room, in a queen mattress. The queen mattress was not very comfortable. It's hit or miss on bed comfort when you are away from home and this was a miss for me and my husband, but the other amenities made up for it so we didn't knock off any stars. The Flying Bear welcomed our dogs, which both made us feel secure and saved us money in kennel expenses. The Flying Bear was clean, all extra bedding was easy to find and the owners communicate with you easily through notes that make renting easier. We've stayed near the slopes and near the airport and find that rentals near the airport, while a bit farther from everything are worth the look and The Flying Bear did not disappoint. The owners even give you a chocolate for your pillow, which this chocolate lover really appreciated! When we left the neighbors, who were outside chatting over their morning cup of joe, took our picture in the front yard. The neighbors are nice too! We would love to come back and recommend you give it a chance!
