Beautiful home in very private setting

5 of 5
Although we were only able to stay for a short time, I found that this home would be ideal for extended visits. It is beautifully-appointed and located in a very private and picturesque setting. The property is very well-maintained, and the home is comfortable and spacious. There are great opportunities for hiking, fishing, and observing nature right on the property, and the upstairs theatre is ideal for relaxing in the evening. I plan on returning to this home at my first opportunity, and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience true privacy in a very well-appointed home.

Beautiful, relaxing family friendly retreat

5 of 5
Our family chose the Rausser Ranch for our annual "camping" trip. We have 5 siblings and all of us have children, and some have grandchildren. Our ages ranged from 10 months to 80 and we were all comfortable and relaxed throughout our stay. If you leave the windows in the bunk-room closed during the day and the fans on you hardly notice the lack of A/C. The home is built very well and is comfortable throughout. There is only 1 bathroom in the main house which is where the majority of the sleeping accommodations are but we were able to share the other 3 that are on the property easily so it was only a minor inconvenience. The cottages worked well for families with small children for napping and quiet time. Our days were spent at the pond fishing (the children easily learned catch and release and fished from sun up to sun down), swimming, playing on the water trampoline, zip lining, row boating or just relaxing on the grassy areas near the water. Nights were spent grilling and sitting around the fire pit making s'mores, star gazing and catching up. We went white water rafting with American River Recreation on one day and while it was a once in a lifetime experience, I would have loved one more day at the ranch. We had planned on sight seeing and hiking but chose instead to stay at the ranch and play. The caretaker, Don was warm and welcoming upon our arrival and gave us a tour with directions on how to use everything and explain the "rules". The rules are simple to follow and pretty common sense stuff. He visits a couple/three times a day and his dog, Blue quickly became part of the family. Don knows the area well and can recommend many area attractions and places to go. The screened porch was the perfect sleeping area for the high school/college aged boys and they enjoyed being able to have some time away from the adults and their own space. I doubt we will be pitching a tent anytime soon as we plan on making this our new yearly get together spot as long as we can. We all giggle when we talk about our "camping" trip as we still call it. Can't wait for next year.
