Great Location, Great Place

5 of 5
This was a great stay!! The house is perfect, great deck with grill. Clean, and had ample supplies. In walking distance to downtown and the beach. Lance was easy to work with. Will definitely be back !!

Clean, well stocked, great location

5 of 5
Stayed here for two weeks over Christmas break. The place was very clean, in good condition, and extremely well stocked (e.g. trash bags, laundry detergent, kids beach toys, etc.). The owner was professional and great to work with. The location was excellent. Great sunset views just 50 yards away and a pleasant view from the deck. Restaurants are not far at all - just a few minutes down the 101. The HEATED pools and hot tub were a big plus, especially for our three year old. The pool was pleasantly warm (80 degrees?) and located just a 100 yards or so from the home. As the name suggests, the property is located on a bluff so you will need to use stairs to access the beach. It's about 100 stairs. So if you have toddlers or infants, you will want to use either Moonlight Beach (6 minutes drive) or Carlsbad beach (2 minute drive) most of the time. We used this beach for sunset views from the deck located about 15 stairs down and went to the other beaches during the day. If you don't have small children and are in reasonable health, the stairs won't be an issue. I definitely recommend staying here.

Reality meets fantasy

5 of 5
I was looking to escape the Boston cold last winter and Encinitas seemed like a great place for a month-long business relocation and mind relocation. My wife researched 3 places on VRBO that looked promising. When I looked at the first one, the Tropical Plantation Beach Cottage, I decided that was the one. My wife pleaded with me to look at the other two because she had spent so much time talking with the owners, but my mind was made up. Rarely does reality match expectations but when I arrived the cottage exceeded my already high expectations. If you were passing by it looks like a very nice house in a very nice quiet neighborhood. When you enter you are transported to a serene, amazing fantasy. From the huge palm trees lit at night, to the multiple fireplaces, to the comfortable canopied cushioned lounge in the back (with HI DEF TV and music) next to the private hot tub, this is the place dreams are made of. When he is not off on some amazing adventure, Eric is like having a friendly, handy neighbor living close by along with his trusted companion Ono the dog. If you need him he is there, if you are fine on your own you will not see him. I decided not to rent a car for my time in Encinitas and it was a great decision. I was able to walk just about anywhere I needed, which included the beach, a number of restaurants on Highway 101, the meditation gardens and the hardware store. Anytime I did not feel like walking I just used an Uber taxi, usually available within 2 minutes. I could go on, but I think the best thing that I can say in a few words is that I booked up 2 months for the following year when I was checking out. Those two months happen to be coming real soon, as I will be checking in this year on January 1. My only fear in writing this review is that someone else might try to rent for January and February next year. Please do not do that or I will throw small rocks at your window. But feel free to inquire about the other 10 months. Enjoy.
