Reality meets fantasy

5 of 5
I was looking to escape the Boston cold last winter and Encinitas seemed like a great place for a month-long business relocation and mind relocation. My wife researched 3 places on VRBO that looked promising. When I looked at the first one, the Tropical Plantation Beach Cottage, I decided that was the one. My wife pleaded with me to look at the other two because she had spent so much time talking with the owners, but my mind was made up. Rarely does reality match expectations but when I arrived the cottage exceeded my already high expectations. If you were passing by it looks like a very nice house in a very nice quiet neighborhood. When you enter you are transported to a serene, amazing fantasy. From the huge palm trees lit at night, to the multiple fireplaces, to the comfortable canopied cushioned lounge in the back (with HI DEF TV and music) next to the private hot tub, this is the place dreams are made of. When he is not off on some amazing adventure, Eric is like having a friendly, handy neighbor living close by along with his trusted companion Ono the dog. If you need him he is there, if you are fine on your own you will not see him. I decided not to rent a car for my time in Encinitas and it was a great decision. I was able to walk just about anywhere I needed, which included the beach, a number of restaurants on Highway 101, the meditation gardens and the hardware store. Anytime I did not feel like walking I just used an Uber taxi, usually available within 2 minutes. I could go on, but I think the best thing that I can say in a few words is that I booked up 2 months for the following year when I was checking out. Those two months happen to be coming real soon, as I will be checking in this year on January 1. My only fear in writing this review is that someone else might try to rent for January and February next year. Please do not do that or I will throw small rocks at your window. But feel free to inquire about the other 10 months. Enjoy.

Beautiful cottage - highly recommended

5 of 5
We have spent the past few weeks in this cottage and it is just as great as the pictures suggest. Clean, well maintained and simple enough for us to relax with the children. Cindy, who manages the property, has been extremely helpful and supportive throughout with any questions we had. The view is incredible and completely unrestricted and it is very close to the beach. We have our two children with us and went to the beach twice a day - the stairs are just a block away. It is also very conveniently located for local shops - Wholefoods and other stores easy walking distance. We are hoping to return. Highly recommended. Thanks Cindy..

Beautiful week in Encinitas, CA. Can't wait to go back!

5 of 5
We spent a wonderful week at this home in Encinitas this summer. It was perfectly clean, spacious, and full of natural light. We could see the ocean from the patio and loved sleeping with the bedroom doors open so we could fall asleep to the sound of the waves. The home is close to everything in terms of San Diego attractions, although, we preferred to spend most of our time right there in Encinitas and Carlsbad. (We did go to Sea World one day and downtown San Diego another afternoon.) Lots of wonderful restaurants near by, close to shopping at the outlets in Carlsbad, steps from the beach (a beautiful beach and not too crowded), close to our favorite donut shop (Leucadia Donuts) and a wonderful little market for fresh produce is just down the street. The home is tucked back into a very quiet neighborhood off the main street, we couldn't hear any traffic, it was very serene. We traveled with our four young children who loved the kid-sized bathrobes (after a long day at the beach, they couldn't wait to go home and slip into those fluffy robes) and the children's books in the bedrooms. We also thoroughly enjoyed swimming in the heated pool, which was definitely large enough to accommodate all the people in the pool area. The grounds of the neighborhood are well taken care of, lots of beautiful flowers, quiet neighbors. We can't wait to return. Our kids our already begging us for a return trip. Thank you, Carol Lynn, for the wonderful week. We loved every minute!
