Retro Paradise

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Was located in quieter end of Balboa Peninsula two blocks from beach. It was perfect! Two nice size bedrooms and two bathrooms. Found the kitchen to be stocked enough for two people(4 too). There is no oven but we did all our cooking on nice Bar-b-que on front patio. We ran out of gas and called Burr- White and a replacement tank was there within the hour! All towels and sheets were supplied.we had to purchase dish detergent as none was supplied.

Balboa Island Beach Cottage – 4th of July Getaway

5 of 5
Steve made the booking process easy & hassle free- seeing how we were visiting for the 4th of July- one of the most fun, but busiest times of the year- but we only had a few days to spend on Balboa Island (although we would have loved to stay longer)- he worked with us on our dates so we could avoid staying in a hotel. He was also very quick to respond with any questions we had from start to the end. We were also very impressed with how kind the owner Garry was! Sometimes when you hear the owner lives near-by, you’re not sure what to expect, but we hardly saw him outside of when he was helping or offering to let us borrow beach equipment, or anything else we needed! The day we arrived, he was waiting for us just so he could give us his parking spot- parking is very limited all over the island - which is to be expected, especially considering the time of year we came so this was an amazingly kind & thoughtful thing for him to do. I could go on & on about how nice he is but then I wouldn’t be able to share all the amenities & activities there are! The beach house is very quaint, clean, and comfortable- perfect for our family of 4. It’s only a 30 second walk to the bay/sand where Garry has kayaks available to use if you’d like- you can also rent paddle boards, which is another great way to explore the bay. We enjoyed our ‘many’ strolls on the boardwalk- just admiring all the well-kept custom homes & beautiful yachts. We kept our car parked the entire time & explored the island via beach cruisers – which can also be brought right on the ferry so you can explore the beach side – all within minutes. With all the walking & bike riding we did, I never felt guilty trying a variety of Balboa Bars & chocolate dipped bananas! My favorite was the Balboa Bar with everything on it! Yummy!! There are some cute shops at reasonable prices, all within walking/bike riding distance from the cottage. We ate out at Village Inn one night- (great food & a decent ambiance), but most of the time, we just cooked & bbq’d right at the cottage. We went 4th of July weekend, so although it was a bit busy, I must say.. the island had the BEST fireworks display we can recall seeing!

Quiet, Peaceful Island Getaway.

5 of 5
This upstairs apartment has a great location on the Grand Canal. It is also very close to the main shopping strip where the restaurants are located - a two minute walk. Excellent fitout and very comfortable for a couple. Quality appliances, renovated, modern bathroom and kitchen and all the starter condiments to allow meal preparation - either in the kitchen or BBQ on the deck overlooking the canal. We found the owners very helpful and Tom (their onsite Manager) provides good assistance and all the local tips for a great stay. Balboa Island is a delight for couples seeking a peaceful break in beautiful surroundings . We had great weather and enjoyed walking the island regularly and taking the ferry to the Peninsula. There are sufficient good restaurants on the island to meet all tastes - our favourite was Basilica (Swiss/French).. We will return.
