Great price-to-value... Lazy days next to the beach with balcony views of ocean & mountains

5 of 5
Perfect mid-October shoulder-season getaway for two. Second-floor unit, about 40 feet from front gate to beach, well-maintained and appointed inside and out with reserved off-street parking. Balcony with table, lounge chairs, and gas BBQ is semi-screened for privacy from street and overlooks public boathouse and access area for beach and salt marsh preserve. Pedestrian-friendly downtown Carpinteria is about 1/4 mile away with shops, restaurants, groceries, and Amtrak. This unit was great for lounge-chair laziness and was also our base for day trips to Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez Valley, and Ojai. While it didn't bother us, travelers who are sensitive to occasional street noise should know that the public street/boathouse area in front of the unit is active throughout the day. The unit's bathroom/laundry can only be accessed through master bedroom.

Lovely home away from home with only a few minor quirks.

4 of 5
First off, let me get this out of the way - this is an absolutely beautiful location. Literally a stones throw away from the ocean front right outside the balcony. The condo itself is very lovely, decorated and equipped to make you feel right at home. All you need to bring is your clothes and toiletries. However, there are a few small issues that prevent me from saying that this place was absolutely perfect. First, the big glass doors on the balcony are at just the perfect angle to have the sun just beaming directly in during the fall when I stayed there. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but there are no blinds or curtains to block the sun from coming in and its so intensely bright with the water reflecting off the ocean that it almost makes the living room unusable without sunglasses from about 2:00 to 6:00. We jury-rigged a ghetto curtain using a spare sheet and some pants hangers, but this presented other problems. We hung the hangers on the molding "lip" around the patio doors but the wind kept blowing the sheet down. Well simple solution right? Close the door. Okay, well we would have but there isn't an AC in this place and we were starting to get a little warm. Keeping the doors open to let the ocean breeze in was the only way to cool the place down a bit. So then we had to get even MORE Ghetto and tape the hangers to the door frame so they wouldn't get blown off. I admit, this probably isn't a problem for everybody, but I was renting the place for a few days and was planning on lounging for part of it. If you're just looking for a place to sleep and don't plan on hanging out here in the middle of the day then it probably won't matter to you. Another thought you might have is hey, why not just spend time in another part of the condo? Well that gets to my second issue. Although there are three TVs in this place, only the one in the living room actually has working cable. This sounds nitpicky, and it probably is, but depending on your situation that might be a big deal. Other than the lack of a curtain of some sort, non-existant AC, and two of the three TVs not working this place was absolutely wonderful and I would definitely stay again.

Great Access to a beautiful beach

5 of 5
The beach is a few hundred feet away. It is a beautiful uncrowded beach with moderate surf. The house is fine, but a little dated. Everything worked and there was adequate utensils. The internet was good and parking was just behind the house. We appreciated that many non perishable items were there including a few light beers. The town of Moss Landing is a few miles away. We had a great dinner at Phil's Fish Market and were able to a get some starter food at the liquor store/convenience store. A real grocery store is about 6 miles away There is a food cart that serves only artichokes out on Route 1 that we loved. We did not use any of the resort amenities.
