GREAT REDWOOD CABIN NEAR THE OCEAN

5 of 5
When I selected this cabin, I was a little concerned that it might be too rustic. We arrived and saw the beauty in this place immediately. The large Redwood trees created a serene wonderland. Each morning I would get up early to go out to take in the quietness. The only noises were the babbling creek and the birds. We rented the main house and the studio. Each was fully stocked with everything we needed including a washer/dryer. Bring a sweatshirt with you, they have a wonderful wood burning heater in the house. The cabin has been remodeled, modernized bathrooms, and decorated for the area. The great charm about the place- Lisa and Abraham kept the authentic feel of a hunting cabin in the redwood forest. This house is in a neighborhood with a winding drive into the mountains along Hwy 1. You have great access to the beaches and a few restaurants are only about 20 minutes away. The house is closer to Carmel than to Big Sur. We loved this cabin and would like to return for a longer stay next time.

IDYLLIC RETREAT!

5 of 5
We had a very quick trip to Big Sur for our anniversary. It was interesting booking a place in South Big Sur and checking out the Southernmost parts. The topography is less wooded near the sea in this area, but still gorgeous. We loved the clean lil' cabin and it was stocked with everything that we needed. It was nice to see natural cleaning supplies and yummy Big Sur local made soap. Most of all we loved all the candles, the great Big Sur hiking and history guides, the grotto bathroom, the bathtub, and the view. The curious and cute cats greeted us at the gate and we marveled at the divine atmosphere as we sauntered down the cobbled steps. Peggy was quite lovely and recommended some perfect local hikes and a scrumptious restaurant for us. Treebones is close by and very delicious! They have spotty internet there--but if you need to check in with your peeps, it is the closest place to go in this area . The internet there only works for about 30 min., but it is better than nothing. Going to this mountain retreat is all about unplugging--there is no signal of any sort here for your phone. There is a landline for emergencies--but it is a noisy line so don't rely on that either. We expected to have a lot of bugs out there amidst the redwoods, but it wasn't a problem at all. I put on bug spray every night out of old habit--but honestly I didn't see any mosquitoes, which was very nice. We didn't go on the trails outside of the cabin because Peggy said it was a bad tick yr. Almost everything was perfect at this shangri-la except for the overgrowth of poison oak (it is all over big sur) and the scary road to get there. We have an Element so it was ok to drive there--but if you come--be prepared for a steep and bumpy ride. We drove slowly in first gear--but I wouldn't recommend timid drivers arriving to cabin after dark. Here are some things that I would recommend to bring or to have Peggy keep in the cabin for the future: 1. A pair of binoculars/telescope. There is such excellent birdwatching here. We saw so many friendly singing birds. We were also always on the lookout for some whales (we didn't see any--but there is always next time) 2. A local phone book. We had to call and bother Peggy to get the number for some restaurants for reservations. 3. A good book 4. A deck of cards Thank you for everything Peggy! We didn't get to leave a note in your guest book but really appreciated your darling little getaway retreat.

BEAUTIFUL PLACE

5 of 5
My husband and I spent several days at this house in January 2013. It was absolutely perfect. The views are unbelievable, the house is very comfortable and well-equipped. It is very private, up a winding road. The caretaker was extremely helpful. I only wish there was another bedroom so that we could return with some of our kids. One of the most beautiful places I have ever been to.
