Comfortable Balboa Island Stay

5 of 5
If you wish for a water front location with water sports equipment, this is it. The kayaks and paddle boards, for my family, is the deal maker. Launch or watch from your vacation door step. Perfect size for 6-7 persons, close to the shops, without the noise and traffic. The home is clean and inviting. The owner gave us perfect and accurate instructions. I most certainly recommend this to friends, and plan on a future stay. If you need transportation, park the car, move it only for street sweeping day, rent bikes (beach cruisers) across the Balboa ferry on the peninsula, and you are set! Stock up on groceries the first day, and if you forget something, you can bike to a super market less than a mile away across the main bridge on Bayside Drive. If you want ocean waves, make an adventure out of your stay by traveling to 18th Street on the peninsula by way of ferry, and ocean front bike path. Bungee the wave and skim boards on the basket and handlebars. 18th is great because it's a 20 minute journey, less crowded than the spots near parking lots, and the sand flattens out, with the start of longer (no shore break) waves. And you're a stones throw from the Newport Pier, 20th St., with shops and food spots. When your done at the ocean beach, head back to Grand Canal, and board or kayak around the Balboa Island, and Little Island too. You can keep any eye on the kids while barbecuing dinner.
