Second stay at the fabulous Beachcomber Villas. We stayed a month and spent 2 weeks in each apartment, so see notes below. The hosts at this property are just unbelievable and the property itself, right on the ocean in a quiet neighborhood with a dive shop a 3 minute walk away, is wonderful. Beachcomber Villas is primarily set up for quiet, friendly couples who dive and/or snorkel. If you want to throw loud parties or you prefer not to talk to your neighbors, this property may not be a good fit. Also they do not take kids under 12. All other visitors will love it.
The owners bend over backward to keep these apartments immaculate, including rewashing every single dish and utensil in the well-equipped kitchen before a new guest arrives. There are so many thoughtful touches: a lightweight portable drying rack for wet suits and towels, beer bottle cozies for your evening beverage, a few days supply of coffee so you can be awake enough to make it to the grocery store, and some old towels (which look better than my new towels) "because you never know when you may need an old towel for something." And the nice Weber Q grill on the terrace. And the cute little battery powered lamps for the kitchen or terrace that they purchased because I mentioned that the overhead light was kind of harsh at night. How about that?
Both apartments are very nice. We like the smaller one a little better because it has windows on both the east and west and gets a nice cross draft which keeps it cooler. We never used the air conditioner. Of course, when those happy little rain squalls blow through, you do have to leap up and close the eastern windows. Also we left them closed when we were out, just in case. And be sure to close the window in the bathroom when you shower so the shower curtain doesn't blow around too much. In the larger apartment, the kitchen makes an "L" with the bedroom and you don't get as nice a cross breeze, so it gets pretty warm despite the fan. The owners do a good job of mosquito control; there are not many; but it seemed to me I was using the handy portable mosquito zapper more in the large apartment than the small one.
We have had four sets of neighbors in the six weeks we've spent at Beachcomber, and they were all delightful friendly divers with whom we shared many a "sundowner" while sitting on our upper terrace or at the beachfront with the owners. Yarn-spinning is a Beachcomber tradition, so be prepared to share yours and listen to others'.
