Phenomenal View and Location - with great hosts!

5 of 5
My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon. The flight was very quick and getting through customs took no time at all. Linda met us at the airport and drove us to the house. It was only about a 10-15 drive at the most. The amenities are perfect for eating in, using the oven, stovetop, or microwave. There were also several restaurants within a two minute walk where we ate several times. The garden is walled in with locked doors, so you have all the privacy while also enjoying the lovely bay. There are chairs and lounges to enjoy, and benches by the old cannon. There are also steps leading down to the water if you want to swim, but be sure to bring water shoes so that you don't get hurt in the various shelled creatures on the seabed. Everything was so clean, and the bed was comfortable. The air conditioning worked great for any evening that may have been a little too warm inside. Linda and Chris were extremely helpful and were great to talk with. They also have great suggestions on activities to do on the island! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet place to relax, but also have access to all of the little things that the town of St. George's provides. The house was within 5 minutes walking distance of a grocery with everything that you could find in local grocery stateside. There is a pharmacy 2 minutes away with everything from candy and shoes to shampoo and medications. The scooter rental shop was a 2 minute walk, and my wife and I enjoyed riding a scooter around the island for the majority of our stay. Don't forget to visit Tobacco Bay where there is a great old fort, the crystal and fantasy caves with unforgettable sights, and Hamilton for its shops and restaurants as well. The Bermuda aquarium and zoo has some great sights as well.

No better way to experience Bermuda!

5 of 5
Our 3 boys are 11, 15, and 19 years old, and this year we realized it's no longer possible to squeeze into a hotel suite. Planning a trip to Bermuda is even trickier, since our younger boys are too young to drive scooters (and frequent bus rides can ruin a vacation). Our best option was a rental home close to beaches and amenities. We never used HomeAway or VRBO before, and had lingering concerns before our trip. Will we be comfortable in a home instead of a hotel, are the pictures misleading, what hidden fees might pop up? Every concern was met with a pleasant surprise to the contrary. Herchalat is a beautiful property carved into the hillside, and we felt like St George residents by week's end. The photos online do no justice to the breathtaking views from every corner of the property. It's close to every imaginable convenience, but private and secluded at the same time. So many unexpected treats were included with the rental that we felt guilty. Faith and Neil also run a water sports business in town (Just Add Water) with a surf shop we walked to every day. Their staff is incredible, and helped our boys find some extra adventure. Ironically, our stay coincided with the rainiest week all summer. If we had stayed in a resort our vacation would have been ruined. At Herchalat, passing showers were a minor inconvenience. The other tourists we met needed to hop a bus, ferry, or cycle in the rain to trek back to their hotels and cruise ships. We just strolled back for a bite to eat, cocktails, and billiards until the sun returned. St George offers so many activities, we could only experience a few- snorkeling, kayaking, scooter rentals, scenic ferry rides, hiking, swimming on secluded beaches, shopping, eating at great restaurants, even jumping off cliffs (with safe guidance from Ian at JAW). We felt sorry for the hoards of cruise passengers squeezing off the ferry every day lugging all their gear to get where we were staying. Can't wait to return and do some of the things we never had time for, like renting a boat, bicycling, touring the island on jet skis, and the ping pong tournament I promised my son (but we never got around to uncovering the table out back.)

Comfortable apartment in a lovely location.

4 of 5
This property is located across from a quiet, picturesque harbor, within walking distance to a quiet beach, and very near bus stops, allowing you to go anywhere you would like on the island. The apartment is clean and fresh, with a comfortable bed, excellent shower, everything you need to make simple meals, a balcony overlooking thel harbor, and an additional sitting room with a huge window that also overlooks the harbor. Jody is a gracious and available host, and will help you get the most out of your vacation. He picked up bus passes for us before we arrived, since we were arriving during a holiday and would not be able to purchase them ourselves. He also arranged our transportation to and from the airport. There is a grocery store a short bus ride or walk away where you can get provisions. We enjoyed a typical Bermudian Sunday breakfast of cod, potatoes, banana, avocado and sauces at Woody's which is also easily reachable by bus, or a little longer walk (perhaps a mile or less). You can hear road noise in the apartment, which we were not at all bothered by. Having a full apartment with a kitchen made our stay more affordable and comfortable. Bermuda may be one of the most lovely places on earth. It certainly is populated by the most lovely people.
