Hidden Gem

5 of 5
We had a great stay here despite some unusually rainy weather. The accommodations and the host were wonderful. The suite was very clean and the views were surreal. It was an ideal location central to the island if you are interested in exploring and amazing beaches. It is low key and has a great energy. We rented a scooter but buses traveled often and were a 5 minute walk from the property. Overall, we highly recommend a stay here and look forward to returning.

A Delightful setting in the Church Bay area

5 of 5
The accommodation was the perfect location for us and within easy reach of Church Bay as well as the other beaches throughout the Island. The description of the property is spot on and the dogs were a delight. Amenities such as the washing machine and dryer helped keep the beach towels fresh. Nice size fridge with a good ice maker for those Dark and Stormy drinks. Having Scooters was a huge bonus and opened up the entire Island for us. With the help of Patty and Junior, we were given expert information as to where to go and what to see. Many hidden gems in Bermuda if you have the right contacts. The accommodation was clean and comfortable with a well appointed kitchen, lounge with good TV and Cable channels. The WiFi was excellent with surprisingly quick response times. The outside shower was great to wash the sand off the snorkeling equipment and ourselves, nice and cool after a long day in the sun. I would recommend visitors bring as many groceries as you can as the cost of shopping is very high. There is an excellent "farm stall" on Middle Road - going west, where the cost of the fruit and veg is far more reasonable. The snorkeling at Church Bay is very good. Other good snorkeling areas are Daniels Head, Turtle Bay, Tobacco Bay and all along the South Coast beaches. Horseshoe Bay is good later on in the day when the ship people tend to drift back to Docklands. We had some good restaurant experiences such as Twizzle and Gulf Stream on the South Road. Best restaurant was The Lobster Pot in Hamilton. Try their good value lunchtime set menu. Award winning Fish Chowder. Docklands is good for a visit and awe at the vast ocean liners. Nice Frozen Yogurt shop with good value snacks. Visit the Carole Holding shop in the Docklands mall with many nice souvenirs. Going to the top of Gibbs lighthouse was worthwhile to see nearly all the island. Bring a pair of binoculars for Turtle watching and Gibbs lighthouse. Bring an underwater camera - we're gutted we did not bring one. A delightful location, with good sleeping accommodation, no need for AC as the open windows with the mosquito netting provided a nice cool breeze through the house day and night. I would recommend this property to a small group or family. We will be going back one day. Bill Adamson

No better way to experience Bermuda!

5 of 5
Our 3 boys are 11, 15, and 19 years old, and this year we realized it's no longer possible to squeeze into a hotel suite. Planning a trip to Bermuda is even trickier, since our younger boys are too young to drive scooters (and frequent bus rides can ruin a vacation). Our best option was a rental home close to beaches and amenities. We never used HomeAway or VRBO before, and had lingering concerns before our trip. Will we be comfortable in a home instead of a hotel, are the pictures misleading, what hidden fees might pop up? Every concern was met with a pleasant surprise to the contrary. Herchalat is a beautiful property carved into the hillside, and we felt like St George residents by week's end. The photos online do no justice to the breathtaking views from every corner of the property. It's close to every imaginable convenience, but private and secluded at the same time. So many unexpected treats were included with the rental that we felt guilty. Faith and Neil also run a water sports business in town (Just Add Water) with a surf shop we walked to every day. Their staff is incredible, and helped our boys find some extra adventure. Ironically, our stay coincided with the rainiest week all summer. If we had stayed in a resort our vacation would have been ruined. At Herchalat, passing showers were a minor inconvenience. The other tourists we met needed to hop a bus, ferry, or cycle in the rain to trek back to their hotels and cruise ships. We just strolled back for a bite to eat, cocktails, and billiards until the sun returned. St George offers so many activities, we could only experience a few- snorkeling, kayaking, scooter rentals, scenic ferry rides, hiking, swimming on secluded beaches, shopping, eating at great restaurants, even jumping off cliffs (with safe guidance from Ian at JAW). We felt sorry for the hoards of cruise passengers squeezing off the ferry every day lugging all their gear to get where we were staying. Can't wait to return and do some of the things we never had time for, like renting a boat, bicycling, touring the island on jet skis, and the ping pong tournament I promised my son (but we never got around to uncovering the table out back.)
