Holiday Week Fun

5 of 5
This was our first trip to Ambergris Caye and Captain Morgans Retreat and hopefully will not be our last. It was spectacular. As has been said in several reviews, Tim was very helpful planning our trip and gave us many useful tips. The condo and the property were very well kept and quite beautiful. CMR is gorgeously landscaped with comfortable padded beach chairs, hammocks and Tim's balcony is ideal for morning coffee or evening cocktails as the view of the Caribbean is breathtaking. The staff at Captain Morgans are all incredibly helpful and friendly and the atmosphere at both bars friendly and fun. Felix planned all of our sea adventures and every captain was nicer than the next. Our young adult kids loved the freedom of riding the golf cart to town, gambling in the casino, enjoying local beers and New Years Eve in Belize. This is a fabulous trip for families with college kids as there is fun both day and night and the island is safe and the locals extremely friendly. Although beach towels are provided you are financially responsible for returning your towel, a sustainable positive which eliminates beach towels abandoned all over chase lounges. I would bring my own next time as I did find it stressful worrying whether the kids would lose their towels! CMR does not operate like a large hotel chain, they are on island time and you may need to give them a gentle reminder but their calm friendly style is soon contagious. Take a bike ride on the beach as bike rental for the day is a mere 10 dollars and the best way to see all the restaurants and different homes along the water. The beach is packed sand so it is super easy to ride a bike. There were eight of us in this condo and it is really best suited for six for beds, but we brought along two air mattresses which the unit can easily accommodate. We highly recommend a meal at Aji's and Rendezvous, both have excellent food spectacular ambiance and you can walk to both on the beach. I would highly recommend this condo but don't forget your bug spray, those little bugs come out at night and you need repellant. I feel lucky to have found such an awesome resort and really hope to repeat this trip someday.

This property has it ALL!!

5 of 5
I would def. recommend this property for a San Pedro vacation. It really has it all -- spacious, luxurious, very modern, great location, beautiful amenities. All the benefits of a spacious home and the views, service and amenities of a 5-star resort. We stayed there from March 2 - 9, 2013. There were 6 of us and we knew it was a great unit based on the pics but it exceeded expectations. All of the bedrooms upstairs could be considered a master suite. All with upgraded bathrooms and balconies with amazing water views. The downstairs is spacious with an amazing kitchen and plenty of indoor and outdoor dining space. Even more impressive than the unit is the service at the resort. They take care of everything for you. Daily housekeeping, laundry service, etc. You can also have them buy your groceries for you and stock your fridge. One of the guys had a birthday during our stay and we asked the front desk to help us decorate. We came home from a long day of fishing to find a personalized birthday cake, balloons, and flameless candles everywhere. They even decorated his room with balloons. We were only charged for the cost of the cake. They really go above and beyond when it comes to service. The only negative -- if you consider it a negative -- is the resort seemed pretty empty when we were there. I am not sure if we were there at an off peak time, but there were at most 10 people using the pool area on any given day. It didnt matter much to us b/c we were gone most days to go diving. Now a few travel tips about Belize &San Pedro. You should prob rent a golf cart as we used it a lot to go in and out of town. The concierge is very helpful at setting up excursions-- and it's very convenient as they pick you up right from the resort's pier. You will save some cash if you book yourself which is easy to do by riding into town and talking with some of the tour operators. The resort I am sure gets a commision and you are paying for the convenience of booking without leaving the resort but we were there a week and did excursions every day so we booked a lot of fishing and diving ourselves. If you have the time to go to the mainland for cave tubing and ziplining I would def. recommend it. There is some time in getting there (80 min ferry ride, then 1 hour shuttle) but it was worth it. It was amazing! We did the ATV jungle tour which was fun but not as exciting as the other two. We used cave-tubing.com to book this.
