                  good vacation

                  4 of 5
The property is beautiful. It is much smaller than it appears in the pictures. It states it sleeps 12 which it does, however it does not sit near 12 people in the living room or at the dinning room table. It does not have a safe and we felt a false sense of security with the alarm system. Jewelry even though hidden was stolen as well as some clothes. There wasn't enough cutlery, beach towels or dishes we found. We often ran out of toilet paper as well. internet and power outages were often and not necessarily the fault of the property managers. We did have a generator so we were not without power but would not have AC or use of the dryer when there was outages. The house is very clean and has a beautiful ocean view. We were disappointed to find out the beach was not ours but for the community and was a short walk away. We wanted beach front. Brad was very helpful with everything. Having a maid who is also willing to cook the odd meal for you would be nice. Brad did provide us with that but her cooking skills lacked somewhat. We do recommend this property providing the owners get a safe. Bananarama was not a very helpful dive centre and didn't appear to care about your safety, needs or whether or not the had your business. With power outages restaurants were without power as well which lead to long delays and no light whatsoever to see what you were doing. Highly recommend Free radical catamaran boat tour. Amazing food and staff. Beautiful snorkelling everywhere. The dolphin swim was awesome. Remember you get what you pay for, so book with professional companies for fishing and diving.

                  To be coveted.

                  5 of 5
We did an enormous amount of research before deciding to spend a week in October at the XBalanque resort (at the moment more of a boutique hotel, but in the process of expanding -- without sprawling). Several times a day we patted ourselves on the back -- it was an excellent decision. My boyfriend was previously more of a backpacker kind of guy, whereas I prefer luxury and comfort, and having traveled the world I can honestly say that XBalanque is the best hotel I've ever stayed in. The setting is truly out of this world. Not only are the views breathtaking at every time of day or night, but the design of the hotel will wow anyone with an eye for architecture or aesthetics. Patsy not only designed a stunning and discreet hotel (though oustanding enough that anyone who shared a water taxi with us swooned with envy whenever we pulled up to the dock), but she also curated is with some truly breathtaking artworks, most of them from her trip to Indonesia. We stayed in the one bedroom suite and, while we almost opted for a larger room for the sake of more space, we were happy with the decision we made and never once felt cramped or claustrophobic in our room. The room was well-equipped, and very well insulated; we couldn't hear a thing outside, and with that tremendously comfortable bed, this makes it altogether too easy to sleep in and opt for an afternoon dive instead of the early morning dive. The exceptional security at the hotel also contributed to many peaceful nights of sleep. Patsy's partner, Marco, met us at the hotel and drove us first to the grocery store to pick up a few essentials, and then to the hotel. He showed us our room, where we were greeted by a nice bottle of red wine and about a dozen fresh Honduran bananas (the best bananas I've tasted in my life). We left our bags and immediately went to the dining area where Pedro had already prepared us a pitcher of fresh juice, and then he made us a delicious dinner -- the first of many that we enjoyed during our stay. The food at XBalanque is so fine, and the setting is so breathtaking, that leaving the hotel for dinner elsewhere in Roatan begins to feel odd. You nearly expect the dining options on the rest of the island to correspond somehow to what and where you eat at the hotel -- but really even at the best restaurants we ate at outside the resort (Oasis made excellent green curry chicken, as well as a wonderful lamb vindaloo), they nonetheless fall short where ambiance is concerned. We made

                  Extraordinary island experience

                  5 of 5
Our two families, including 4 kids, enjoyed an exceptional week here. Three things made the CVV experience stand out: 1) The house itself is magnificent, built recently to the highest quality standards and perched atop a hill with commanding views over the sea. It may physically be the nicest house rentable on the island. The pool, beach cabana, jet ski, boat, sea kayaks, home audio/video - all related equipment are similarly high-quality and ready for enjoyment. If you visit, be sure to check out the beach next door to the house, which is sandier and allows wading out to a small island. 2) The service exceeded any that I've enjoyed in my 17 years of renting vacation homes. It starts with the responsiveness and professionalism of the home owner, who cares deeply about the guest experience, and continues to Cass, the wonderful property manager. She helped us plan everything, including daily activities (zip lines, van tour, boat trip, etc.) and especially diving (she is a certified dive instructor). On diving, she hooked us up with three different shops on different parts of the island, where we arranged to hit the specific sites we most wanted. One of those dive shops is nearly adjacent to the property, but the others are 10+ miles away, and we were easily able to do them all, thanks to her planning. Nolvia, the cook, rocks, and we recommend using her for dinners, too. Given her skill, there's no need to leave the property to enjoy the best of local cooking. Raul made transport a breeze, and if you speak Spanish, you'll find him and Nolvia great to interact with. Gary, the mechanic, is also the owner of West End Divers, and we greatly enjoyed our day of diving with him. In sum, you won't find service this comprehensive at a 5-star hotel, let alone any other vacation rental. 3) The combo of house amenities (boat, jet ski, pool, sea kayaks, etc.) and island activities (diving, zip lines, animal parks, dolphin experience) combine for a wonderful mix of experiences that can, thanks to Cass's help, all be enjoyed without breaking a sweat. It takes little effort on the part of house guests to plan and enjoy it all. I doubt any other accommodation on the island could match this. I'm personally a senior employee at HomeAway/VRBO and have stayed at a lot of houses over the years. This is one of the best. Enjoy!
