Great central location, but private & quiet

5 of 5
Roatan is a beautiful island with a ton of character, friendly locals and a wide variety of things to do every day. We rented a 4x4 truck conveniently from the property manager, Kerry, and were able to explore the entire island. Casa Cervantes is in a great location that is central for everything! From the well-known (and rightly so!) white sand beaches & turquoise waters of West Bay Beach to Palmetto Point all the way to Paya Bay on the east end of the island. We also enjoyed the Sandy Bay beach a short walk from the house near Spooky Channel, even doing some fishing from the dock & hiring a boat from West End to pick us up there for a day to explore the waters fishing and snorkeling. We really enjoyed hiking at Carambola Gardens, Arch’s Iguana Farm, zip lining, dolphin encounter at Anthony’s Key Resort, Blue Harbor Tropical Arboretum, but especially loved our day spent at Hole in the Wall Bar near Jonesville for their all you can eat steak & lobsters. We also loved Rotisserie Chicken in West End. Casa Cervantes was the perfect size and layout for our family of 4. We only rented the main house and not the casita. The pool was awesome for a quick dip and the palapa was nice too. The wrap around decks with outdoor seating and views of the tips of the tropical trees and ocean in the distance was relaxing. There is a big guava tree outside the kitchen and we picked fresh guavas for breakfast every morning. My boys would collect coconuts and the gardener would open them up with his machete for fresh milk everyday too! Just make note that the house only has a wall AC unit in the master bedroom that you can turn on at night. It did get a bit hot and stuffy for our boys and in the evenings, but they have fans and you can open up the windows & doors to get a little cross-breeze. Also beware that although there is a washer/dryer, you are on an island so everything rusts and all of our clothes came out with rust stains, so wash with caution. The house has most everything else you need, including beach towels. They are a little old but still work the same nonetheless. There is a cd player available in the living room so bring some music. We love to cook and small shops and vendors are everywhere, as well as 2 big grocery stores that have everything you need. The only other suggestion I would have is if they could get some decent knives for those that like to cook. Overall, Casa Cervantes was a great vacation home for my family and I’d love to go back!

Beautiful Condo and Property

5 of 5
Beautiful spacious condo on one of the nicest properties in West Bay, overlooking the ocean, offering exquisite views of both sides of the island. The condo itself is beautiful, spacious, has a master bed/bath that wants for nothing and a second bed/bath that is perfect as well. There's a well equipped kitchen, which we used to cook, and a perfect four top high table on the patio to watch the occasional passing passenger ship or the water taxi, and to look at the ocean views. You can go down the hill to West Bay village in the early morning and grab the fresh fish from a local boat for incredibly reasonable prices! However, the piece de resistance is the pool area complete with the small very private beach, seen in the owners pics. It's not large, but it's picturesque, with the iguanas as your sunbathing compadres - from a safe distance - so no worries! Cacti and flowers abound, the pool water warm and inviting; it all adds up to a relaxing experience that far surpasses the tourist scene in West Bay. Both the owners & property manager Peggy are wonderful. Peggy lives on the property and knows the island so expect some great insights. As an experienced visitor to the Caribbean, I have experienced some disappointment when you arrive at a property and it doesn't match your expectations. This condo, and the property, will exceed your expectations! I highly recommend it!

Beautiful, peaceful villa on Roatan's south side.

4 of 5
Balsam Rock is a beautiful house with lovely views of the ocean. Our group stayed for 2 weeks total, with some of the group arriving later after staying in Copan or Guanaja. The on site manager Jorge was exceedingly helpful and his wife Berta made us an excellent local breakfast one morning. Everything was clean and the house was well supplied for cooking. Due a problem with the pump, the plunge pool water could not be changed (the pump had to be fixed on the mainland) so the second week the pool was a bit cloudy but Jorge kept it swimmable for us. The balconies are really lovely - and there is plenty of space even for a large group to stretch out so some can read while others chat and everyone has their space. The house is located away from any commercial area which we felt was an asset. Day trips were followed by evenings at the house. The first week smaller group did most of their own cooking and when 14 of us were there in week 2, we opted to have Stephanie and James of Roatan Sun Splash Tours do most of our evening meals. We also scheduled several day trips with them - and everything was top notch. The lowest level room (really an apartment with 2 double beds in the bedroom) was a bit musty when we first opened it but that abated as the rooms were aired out. The stairways do not all have handrails, so anyone with mobility issues or with toddlers in the group might prefer a different setting. Snorkeling in front of the house was OK but not spectacular. Snorkeling on Pigeon Cay, however, was truly fabulous, so plans day trip there if you like to snorkel. Overall Balsam Rock was a great place for a group of adults and would be fine for families with older kids. Our group thinks that the place is more suited to 10 adults than to 14 even though there is bed space for 14 if people don't mind 4 in a room with the 2 double beds.
