BEAUTIFUL ISLAND HOME WITH PERFECT LOCATION!

5 of 5
We stayed here in June and it was absolutely perfect! The first thing we noticed is how solidly built and beautifully decorated the home is. Very private and spacious with a large deck with sea views and sunsets to die for. The home has everything you need for a great vacation. Kitchen is well stocked (I notice this was mentioned as lacking before but obviously Gabe- the new owner- has sorted this out!) and the washer and dryer in the laundry room is a huge bonus. Plenty of towels, linens etc. Also cable TV (though I think we hardly ever turned it on, only occasional news from the US!) and wifi - sometimes a little patchy but, hey, we're on a Caribbean island, who cares?!! The location is great, in a secluded small community but we still take a stroll along the beach to West Bay or catch a water taxi when we were feeling lazy or over to West End. We snorkeled off the beach directly in front of the house, we kayaked using the homes' kayaks and Juan Carlos, who looks after the property, brought us fresh coconuts, mangoes, bananas and avocados off the trees surrounding the house. Wow! My favorite thing to do was take a nap in one of the hammocks - there are two, one on the overlook for sunshine and stars and one on the deck for shade and protection from the occasional tropical downpour! I also loved watching the humming birds come to the feeder on the deck. I hope to come back again next year. Thank you Gabe for sharing your home with us!

BEAUTIFUL, PEACEFUL VILLA ON ROATAN'S SOUTH SIDE.

4 of 5
Balsam Rock is a beautiful house with lovely views of the ocean. Our group stayed for 2 weeks total, with some of the group arriving later after staying in Copan or Guanaja. The on site manager Jorge was exceedingly helpful and his wife Berta made us an excellent local breakfast one morning. Everything was clean and the house was well supplied for cooking. Due a problem with the pump, the plunge pool water could not be changed (the pump had to be fixed on the mainland) so the second week the pool was a bit cloudy but Jorge kept it swimmable for us. The balconies are really lovely - and there is plenty of space even for a large group to stretch out so some can read while others chat and everyone has their space. The house is located away from any commercial area which we felt was an asset. Day trips were followed by evenings at the house. The first week smaller group did most of their own cooking and when 14 of us were there in week 2, we opted to have Stephanie and James of Roatan Sun Splash Tours do most of our evening meals. We also scheduled several day trips with them - and everything was top notch. The lowest level room (really an apartment with 2 double beds in the bedroom) was a bit musty when we first opened it but that abated as the rooms were aired out. The stairways do not all have handrails, so anyone with mobility issues or with toddlers in the group might prefer a different setting. Snorkeling in front of the house was OK but not spectacular. Snorkeling on Pigeon Cay, however, was truly fabulous, so plans day trip there if you like to snorkel. Overall Balsam Rock was a great place for a group of adults and would be fine for families with older kids. Our group thinks that the place is more suited to 10 adults than to 14 even though there is bed space for 14 if people don't mind 4 in a room with the 2 double beds.

FAMILY VACATION!

5 of 5
Our family of 5 enjoyed 8 nights in this house! it was well equipped and had everything you would need on vacation! The kitchen had every appliance/tool that you would need, even some I had not seen before! Though we only cooked dinner in the house 1 night, it was nice! The bedroom arrangement was great as we could put our kids (ages 17,12 & 9) on the west wing and we had the east wing! There was plenty of room! The Living room was roomy and would get a nice breeze going through the open doors. The master bedroom also had nice breezes and the sound of the ocean was awesome at night as it is right out your window! I would recommend you rent a 4x4 truck to get around on the island, it by far would be the most comfortable and safest to drive on the island. We loved the pool, the kids would spend hours in the pool every day, even after coming home at night from a long days activities! The wife and I would sit and watch the kids, lizards and humming birds while having a cocktail! The deck is mostly (90%?) shaded throughout the day, always a place to get out of the sun. We have rented several properties through VRBO in various locations in the USA, this one is true to the advertisement and Kevin and Claire the property managers were helpful with any questions we may have had.
